  1. I also wanted to thank you for the wonderful flies. I think I am going to frame them, not fish them. Very beautiful flies. They will deffinatly help to learn how to tie. Thanks again!!! :headbang:
  2. Cool, thanks for the help. Do you know where your son picked up the book? That sounds like a nice visual aid to have. And, just maybe, I can find a few more informative fly books as well.
  3. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: I can not believe this board. I have had so much help on how to tie and then this. Thankyou for your generosity. I am a member on several boards for several different hobbies and none of them are this nice!!! Congrats. I will put my envelope in the mail tomorrow. Thanks again, Aaron
  4. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: You both rock. Thank you for all of the help :yahoo: . Now lets see how they turn out  . I am betting that they will look a bit better!!! :dunno:
  5. I tie in each one individually. Here are the steps I do. 1. Start my thread. 2. Run the thread to the bend. 3. Collect material for tail and tie in. 4. Tie in weight at tail and run weight all the way to eye of hook. 5. Secure the weight in at eye of hook. 6. Run thread back to bend of hook. 7. Tie in chenille at tail and run weight all the way to eye of hook. 8. Secure the chenille in at eye of hook. 9. Run thread back to bend of hook. 10. Tie in hackel at tail and run weight all the way to eye of hook. 11. Secure the hackel in at eye of hook. 12. Finish off with a whip finish. 13. Cement and let dry. Judging from what everyone is saying, I am taking the long way to do all of this. :dunno:
  6. Actually, I am tying in the tail. Then I tie in the weight. Then the chinelle. Then the hackel and finish it off. Based on this it seems like I am doing things a little off. What do I do to correct it? I have been tying these based on memory of a few pics I have seen. Maybe that was not such a hot idea. Thanks for the help. Aaron
  7. Last night I learned the importance of making sure your bobbin is in the right position when starting to tie in a new material. I tied in a tail on another bugger. I later looked at the over all progress and noticed the tail hanging very far past the bend. I some how missed this on tying but it taught me to pay a little more attention to the overall progress before, during, and after you tie in a new material. I will post a picture of my mistake later.
  8. Thanks all. I hope to be able to sell my flys at some point. I am unemployed and this keeps my sanity level a little lower. Here is the third attempt. I am still having a little bit of a problem with the hackel. I can't get the thread back to the head to finish it off without catching some (read alot) of the hackel in the thread. Practice makes perfect.
  9. That is flash that you see. It is actually tinsel chenile olive pearl. I just wanted to add a little flash to it. Will have to see how it works out soon.
  10. Lookin really good. I think I will start catogorizing my flies like that when I get a few more tied. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
  11. Thank you for the compliment. Here is the second one. It took me about 15 minutes and I think it turned out much better over all. :yahoo: :headbang:
  12. Well, here is my first fly. A wooly bugger that took me about an hour to tie. It is a little large  and fluffy but I hope to be able to make them a little more appealing. Thanks for looking. Aaron
  13. I know that this is kinda greedy for my first post on here, but can you put me down. I just purchased stuff to tie with this week and hope to have a good start for the season when I am done. I live out here in New Mexico and there is not much to fish for. Trout. But they are all stockers and they don't have a catch and release program in the little stock lakes that are around me. The best I have seen is a few 18"rs. Mostly just little guys swimmin' around :wallbash: Thanks for letting me join this, Aaron
