charlieb 0 Report post Posted January 26, 2007 I want to try tying a few patterns that use rubber legs. Since I have none of the commercial legs available, will regular rubber bands work as well? Thanks...Charlie
Guest Report post Posted January 26, 2007 They'll work, but are usually a bit large for flies. Another source of similar materials is to cut open a bungee cord...good bungy cords are made up of many single strands of rubber in side a woven nylon cover (woven like a Chinese finger puzzle). Unwrapping this weave is tedious, but one bungy cord will give you a whole bunch (perhaps a lifetime supply) of rubber legs. For many larger bass patterns, you can substitute the silicone type spinner bait skirts available in most tackle shops, not just fly shops. charlieb 0 Report post Posted January 26, 2007 Mark and luvinbluegills: Thanks for the reply. Now I finally have an use for those 2 old spinner baits that have been taking up space in my desk. Just pulled the skirts off of both and have enough legs to last for a while. Thanks again...Charlie
