mcfluffchucker 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 right im away to the back end of beyond on monday to palce that has one boat and no bank fishing so stay tuned , knowing my luck it will be snowing mcfluffchucker (a cave in scotland) the rod is a specialist pike fly rod made by a company called fox the rod is a predator elite 9/10 wgt i use a sink tip 10wgt (for shallow bays) , a 9wgt floater (mostly for poppers and really shallow water) , and in the dephs of winter ill use a 10wgt fast sinker to get on the bottom were the fish are lying in deep water the flies are anything from 2 inchs to 12 inchs long depends what the fish are feeding on if there in the shallows after small roach ill stick a two or four inch fly on if im fishing a deep water in winter ill go for bigger flys but not always the case a lot of my biggest fish come to flies in the 2 to 4 inch range leader lengths vary to the depth of water and the flies im fishing ill use a short leader of 3 or 4 feet in winter so i can work a boyant fly just above the bottom very slowly in the shallow bays ill go for 5 or 6 feet of mono mon strengths i use again vary to the type of water from 18lb up to 30 lb mono leader and a wire trace at the fly end these set ups are my own favs and everybody has a differant veiw but hey it works for me again the sport of fly fishing for anything other than trout or salmon is still fairly new here in this country and predator fly anglers are looked upon as a bit excentric but things are slowly changing for a better view of the sport over here im membership sec / organizer for scotland for the pike fly fishing association pike fly fishing association take a look and see where we are compared to you guys we are years behind as im sure you will see if you browse the site , another reason i come on this forum is that there is a wealth of knowledge from overseas anglers tight lines mcfluffchucker (a cave in scotland) Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
