Guest Report post Posted October 10, 2003 Good luck and enjoy your solo time on the river. I like to get away alone too every now and then. It's good for the soul, I think you really connect with the enviornment when you're alone. Some of the best times I've had fishing were on a couple of solo trips to Montana. Guest Report post Posted October 10, 2003 SD, If you're taking your boat, try to concentrate your efforts below Van Ettan Creek. Remember many of the salmon have been imprinted with the water from the creek while in the pens. Also, it's one of the first areas that hold steelies and LRB's. The run behind Funeral Home is the first available gravel, another one of my favorites for early steel and browns. Good Luck, be safe and keep us posted. Guest Report post Posted October 10, 2003 I want pictures. The few times I visited the AuSable were as a kid prior to becoming addicted to fly fishing and trout. It's my goal to fish the east side more and learn the AuSable. Have fun.
Guest Report post Posted October 10, 2003 Sounds like a great time. I am a solitary person by nature, which is hard with a family, so I envy you. Enjoy! Now how am I going to work the rest of the day with THAT idea playing in my head?
Guest Report post Posted October 10, 2003 Hey, Steelie, whaddya think of this idea - In honor of you going on vaca for a week, to the fabled Au Sable, how 'bout I tie a commemorative fly, based on what I'm doing this weekend - I'll name it the "1 1/4" Galvanized Roofing Nail Fly" (materials) 1 1/4" galvanized roofing nail Karnak trowel-grade roofing mastic GAF Weatherwatch ice shield black paper GAF Sovereign 30 year, in charcoal color It's a pretty solitary kind of fly - think it'd work in fast water? (have a great vacation!)
