DSFlyman 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2009 I picked up these glass beads from a craft store. In the store the beads looked black except when hit with direct light they had a subtle green glow. Well I got home to realize they were really just green. I tied one up anyway. Any thoughts? Is this worth tying more with this bead?

Is this worth tying more with this bead? Heck ya, Its a great looking midge and the sillouette is great. I do suspect that at any serious depth that green bead will become black to the fish. Why? Because of the relatively short wavelength of green light. Red is the first to go, Blue or Violet is the last to "disappear" at water depth. As a subsurface or just under the film pattern those beads would look great. I have some very similiar beads and I use them for Caddis larva and pupa Beadheads. Rp3flyfisher 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2009 I have been using the same green glass beads for a few years. I use a med Olive green thread and use double ribbing ( small Silver & Red wire). Then I coat the whole fly in locktite super glue. They are DEADLY in some of the lakes I go to here in BC Canada. Rick

Futzer 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2009 Hi DSflyman, I use them too. Nice midge. Suggestion, wrap pearl flash, Glow in the dark flash or silver or gold flash underneath to reflect through the bead. Cheers Futzer.
