WYKnot 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 WyKnot .. you're not alone here either. Good thoughts, prayers and thanks heading your son's way. I just found out that my son will probably be heading off to Iraq in the next couple months. I can see a few sleepless nights heading my way. Thanks Mike. Our best to your son. Sleepless nights are a good time to tie flies. Each time my son was deployed, I would buy a fly box and fill it with the flies I tie on those long nights. It is a box that honors his servcie and gives purpose to my worries. He is an on-again, off-again fly angler, but he is going to be well-stocked with flies when he next decides to cast a line. brownsnatcher 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 Here is something my 13yr old daughter wrote for school, she receive 10/10 score for this poem and was told she should enter it in contest. myself I like to see it sent to all the soldiers out protecting us from harm, so if any of you have contacts please foward before July 11th 2007. Here goes: They still feel the pain Still feel the sorrow running through their vains They still have the dreams of the blood curdling screams They still have the fears of those horrid years Just imagine all the emotions they must of felt when seeing all those explosions They had to kill but it was not of their own free will Their ready to forgive but not yet ready to forget God bless the soldiers that fought for us and please give them strenght to readjust To no longer be afraid though they might need some aid Please Lord heal their hearts it will be a great start. SavannahFlies 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 Hi all, I am new to the site and just found this topic. I was humbled reading all of the support, stories, and events posted here. You all are a great bunch of folks. Wy, I didn't see an update on your son... did I miss it? Please let me know if you would be so kind. My Son is in south Bagdad at this time, has been there for a bit over a year. He is an infantryman with the Big Red One! He has been ambushed/hit with IEDs twice now, thank the Lord he only got hit with a bit of shrapnel in the cheek during one of the ambushes/IED. He should be home in another few months. I am ever so proud of him, what he is doing, and what all of our/your loved ones are doing in the name of freedom. I am an 11 year Special Forces Veteran, and quite "battle hardened", I know how much they are going through and pray for all of their safe returns. WYKnot 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2008 Mark, Welcome to the site, thank you for your time in uniform and for your son's service. Watching our children take the battle handover is tough at times, isn't it? My son, Andy, is doing well. He is progressing through a series of practice legs to get the best fit and function. We visited him and his family at Christmas, it was awesome beyond words to be able to go for a walk with my son and grandson. Andy is pushing to continue on active duty and has orders for company command at Ft. Knox in May. I have learned a lot from my two sons this past year; lessons in determination, compassion, and love. I share your pride in the young men and women in uniform. Good luck to your son and his unit. Russ (WYKnot)
maddog48 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2008 There's been a change since my last post here. My son is shipping out but not until January of 09 and going to Qatar. He's in a support role so he'll be behind the scene. Passenger manifests, building pallets, calculating gross weight of aircraft loads .. which amazes me because he sucked at math .. and on and on. I guess kind of like a passenger service specialist for commercial airlines. From what I've heard .. if you have to be shipped out Qatar is one of the better places to be sent to. Buckshot 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2008 I am finishing a four year enlistment in the Navy in two weeks and will be going back home to my family and fishing buddies in Montana. I turned enlisted at 17, and just turned 22. While in the Navy, I fly fished all over the east coast, fortuantly never had to go over seas. Kudos to my fellow veterans in the middle east.
