C LeBo 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2012 They look pretty good, but I would suggest adding more action to them using marabou, arctic fox, or rabbit strips as tails on both. And on the second one, it will ride hook up from the lead eyes.

If these are for fishing on your 5weight then go easy with rabbit strip or artic fox as any of the fur materials will add maybe too much weight. Look at some of the bass flies like 'That Basshole' which is in the database bar in front of me as I type. Look to add some tail as CleBo said and simple tinsel can work great with no extra weight issue. I did well with pike under 10lb using a fly made of a rubber grub that had lost its tail for the body and silver Christmas tinsel for a long tail. Si_ 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2012 Try using EP fibres or Slinky Fibres for winging your fly to keep the weight down. Also I would recommend tying them on bigger hooks (like a 5/0). Here is my copy of a pike fly designed by a famous UK pike fly fisherman. It uses "Slinky Fibres" for the wing. Even though it is about 7 inches long it weighs next to nothing and sheds water really easily.
