Bouyancy question

Recommended Posts

I've want to change the wing material on a fly I tie(currently hen wing) and am torn between using calf tail and some kind of polywing. Both have always been pretty good to me but wondered if anybody has a definitive "which floats better" answer.

Plus you can treat poly with a floatant. When it gets soaked, just squeeze the water out and it's ready to go.

Treating poly yarns with Scotchguard before you tie will add to its ability to repel water, also helps preserve the material itself.

Fishlink,

Try calf body hair, it seems to float better than the calf tail and it's way easier to tie with.
