Lance Kekel 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2003 I've want to change the wing material on a fly I tie(currently hen wing) and am torn between using calf tail and some kind of polywing. Both have always been pretty good to me but wondered if anybody has a definitive "which floats better" answer.
Guest Report post Posted November 13, 2003 Calf tail isn't a hollow hair and will not float well between the two (Poly is your best bet) OSD.
Guest Report post Posted November 13, 2003 Plus you can treat poly with a floatant. When it gets soaked, just squeeze the water out and it's ready to go.
Guest Report post Posted November 13, 2003 Treating poly yarns with Scotchguard before you tie will add to its ability to repel water, also helps preserve the material itself.
Guest Report post Posted November 14, 2003 Fishlink, Try calf body hair, it seems to float better than the calf tail and it's way easier to tie with. Tight Lines, Fatman
