JohnWu 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2015 Theres this one wee blacky olivey fly all over at the lake I was fishing the other day. It looked like a large mosquito (I'm in Ireland btw) and Im having difficulty finding the name of it. Im going to tie up my own imitations, but it'd be cool if someone actually knew what it was. They were smashing a griffiths gnat and a simple wee olive parachute. I know this information is fairly vague, but may as well ask cause google bringing up mumbo jumbo
rockworm 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2015 Since I am in North America I will not be able to ID your fly. (Sounds like a chironomid to me.) But if you give more information someone in Ireland may be able to help. What lake were you fishing? How long was the insect from head to tail? A simple dry midge pattern of the right size and colour should work. Or a light spider.
