FlaFly 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2015 Welcome Jerry. This is the place to learn... lots of knowledge in these parts. You didn't mention whether you're into fly tying or just fishing with them. As far as I can tell you, I advise you to peruse some of the more recent threads on purchasing rods and reels. What you want to buy should reflect what you want to fish for. For example, I fish for panfish, so I use 5wt rod, might get an even lighter one... very simple reel, use popping bugs, foam spiders, etc. If I were fishing for salmon, I'd need much stouter equipment, totally different flies.... you get the idea.
