If your hook shank is 30 mm long, you tie the eyes in 10 mm from the hook eye, ... Not sure about it being too close. That should be the length of the whole hook, not the hook shank. Look at the video posted by fshng2 -- Clouser points out the difference. The eyes end up being at almost the midpoint of the shank. This affects how the fly swims in the water.
