  1. I have caught a couple on a pattern that is just a marabou tail, chenille body, and bead chain eyes. I always catch them with that fly in all black though. I have never caught them on any other colored fly.
  2. Yeah, I have been looking into getting involved in my local TU chapter, but I rarely have time to go trout fishing anymore with all of my football practices and stuff. I have tried to teach a few of my friends and they are cool with it for like two tries and then they just kind of forget about it and nothing comes out of it.
  3. I have just been curious as to how many people my age there are on this forum. I am 16 and have been fly fishing since I was 14 and tying since I was 15. Do you guys have any friends who fly fish/tie? I can't seem to get any of my friends interested. I have a lot that bait fish *gasp* but only like one that fly fishes.
  4. If so, any tips, fly patterns ,and areas to fish would be helpful. Thanks.
  5. Alright, thanks, now that i look at it I think it is 4/5.
  6. I am supposed to go fishing today with one of my friends, and I cannot find my four weight reel. It was in the rod tube with my four weight rod; Found the rod but no reel. It must have gotten misplaced in the move. Who cares, it was like 15 bucks. But i still want to go fishing, so my question is: Can you put a five weight reel loaded with 4 weight line on a four weight rod. Will it throw the balance off?
  7. Oh, Sorry about that, I have tied a good bit for warmwater, so I have all of the basic warmwater stuff, such as foam, chenille, rubberlegs, etc. I just need to know some basic supplies for trout flies; Some materials that I can use for about any type of fly for trout. Like what kind of hackle should I buy. Just some materials for some of your favorite and best producing flies. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks.
  8. I got a 50$ gift certificate to Cabelas for christmas and i dont know what to get with it. I need some ideas on what to get. I will be tying some basic trout flies(wet and dry), but also will be tying some warmwater flies. I just need to know some of the basic materials I should always have. Thanks.
  9. I am actually moving to Cleveland, TN. Sorry for not specifying that...
  10. Yeah, so I am moving to this new house, and it has this really nice stream behind it. Its mostly mud bottom, but there are also some rock walls. Its a pretty decent sized stream, about 25-30 feet across, and, from what I can tell, probably 5-10 feet deep in the channel. I was looking forward to getting in there and trying to catch some smallies. Being as this is my first experience with smallies and streams, I need a few tips. I need to know: A ) What flies will i need? B ) What are some basic tools/supplies i will need? C ) What are some of the techniques i should try and learn?
  11. This past weekend, my family and I went to go vist my granparents. My grandpa told me that there were a bunch of bluegill in his little farm pond, so I brought my 5 weight. The fly I used the whole time was a size 10 modified black gnat. I caught them darn things 'til it wasn't fun anymore. I must've caught over 100. And every single one was over hand size. Just slab after slab after slab. My wrist and finger are still hurting from them. Ill post a picture of the fly when I get back to my house, which will be around tuesday night or wednesday.
  12. Definitely going to be in my box soon. Great pattern!!
  13. Alright, so, I went on down to my friendly neighborhood Sportsman's Warehouse because they are going out of business, therefore, they are having a sale. I picked up some stuff for an order of flies I am not finished with and some random stuff. In that random stuff, I bought the smallest hooks I could find, just to have fun with. First try: it was going to be a wire midge but when I was whip finishing it, I snapped the hook clean in half. So then I decided to try an Adams, simply because I absolutely love to tie them. I have tied 2 sucessfully, but i still need some work. I will try to get a picture up later when I get a chance. Tight lines, smooth threads, and many fish, Clay
  14. I just returned from a Sportsman's Warehouse with some black herl, so you might want to try there. JStockard would probably carry it, too. Tight lines, smooth threads, and many fish, Clay
  15. Lucky! I went out yesterday after a week straight of 70 degree weather and didnt even get a nibble. The whole time I didnt see a gill longer than my pinkie.
  16. Dat's purty coo! Good tie. I am gonna have to tie some up. They look like they would tear some crappie and slab bluegill up here in MS.
  17. You can use your old dubbing dispensers for chenille dispensers. Just thread one end of the chenille through the hole on the bottom and then fold the rest of it up inside the container. I like to kind of spiral the chenille up inside of it so it does not get tangled.
  18. I feel the same exact way about pheasant tail nymphs. No matter what I do the pheasant tail fibers are never long enough to make the body or the break or unravel while I am winding it. Thats why I stick with hare's ears or universal nymphs.
  19. Hows it work for 'gills. IT certainly looks flashy enough. What about the durability of the peacock herl? Just give me some general thoughts about it. As always, thanks for the good advice. Clay
  20. alright, great. now i will HAVE to wait for christmas, cause i wont be home till then.
  21. dont worry airedale, i havent gotten mine either.
  22. Sorry, just getting them out today. Have had a lot of stuff to do. With school, church, duck hunting, and football havent had a chance to get them out yet. But they are gonna be on their way today.
  23. Mine are done and ready, just got to get them to the post office.
