  1. I'm starting to tie extended bodies for flies and I have been using a needle in a Regal non-rotating vise. I have tried bucktail and foam and they are not giving me the smaller body that I see in my local fly shop. When I do make the body and try to get it off the needle I often lose the body or it is not as tight as it was on the needle. I'm wondering how others make their bodies and how they make one with dubbing?
  2. I will soak the herl in a glass of water for several minutes and then use a pencil eraser. I'll work it from the base of the herl to the tip then I'll go from the tip back to the base of the herl for anything that might be left in the first pass. I will also just do small areas at a time, no more than an inch.
  3. I just got mine today. Great bunch of flies!! I can't wait to get out on the water to try them!
  4. When I am trying to add flair to the tail I will use all the above methods but I will also use a pinch of dubbing with the thread bump to really spread out the tail when using hackle fibers it will push the tail at a slightly upward angle.
  5. I just realized that I forgot my tags as I was in a hurry to get them out. I tied a Black Ghost, one of the most productive streamers I use here on the eastern side of PA. Black Ghost Size 10 Tail: yellow hackle Body: floss Ribbing: med holographic mylar Throat: yellow hackle Wings: white hackle Thread: 8/0 uni

  9. Thanks I'll keep it in mind when I work with it.
  10. I got my hands on some fiber optic cord that it 0.010 in dia from an archery store. I was wondering about any patterns that might use it I have it in Green and yellow. I was thinking something like a copper john or give some light to a green weenie. Any other ideas?
  11. I got mine today. Great flies everyone. Great timing trout just opened this past weekend!!!
  12. Sometimes I have found that the bead head can not go onto the hook because of the barb on the hook. If you can live without it I use a pair of needle nose pliers and clamp the barb down and then bead heads just slide on.

  18. My flies just got mailed today. You should have them by Tuesday at the latest, i figure. I threw in an extra bugger for your friend and a few others I had tied recently. I hope everyone enjoys the flies. The bugger is a huge fish slayer down here in PA!! I'm sorry to hear about the no-shows. It's been a great swap with an excellent theme!
