  1. letemgo- here you go! this is a link to a tutorial in slideshow format, hope you all enjoy it. Temple Kitty
  2. DISABLED DUN-HENDRICKSON HOOK- DAIICHI 1260 #14 THREAD- 8/0 RUSTY BROWN OR PINK TAIL- WOOD DUCK FLANK FIBERS RIB- FINE COPPER WIRE ABDOMEN- HARE'S EAR DUBBING WING- CARIBOU HAIR THORAX- DUN SNOWSHOE RABBIT SPUN IN LOOP AND TRIMMED ON THE BOTTOM. i had some trouble with the pattern database thing but here it is anyway. finally had some henny's hatch to try this pattern on them. i got these two fish and had one other refusal to it and then hooked and lost that fish too so i guess it's an official pattern now after two seasons of use.
  3. nice fish and if clousers aren't regularly in your steelhead box they sure should be. Ray the sucker run is in full swing man, get your bhhe's and a 5 wt and go to any trib. i have landed some real slobs this week and so far have four different species. love the spring runs.
  4. nice Ray i was going to ask if it rode point up but you just said it did. OK so now how did you get it to ride point up with the plastic eyes?
  5. everything goes up, but those hooks have been around forever and they are no secret to flyfishermen. i have boxes that are close to 20 years old and i saw a new box at a show last week and they were almost a whole dollar more! very nicely tied flies Mark and the hook looks good too, what size are they?
  6. cool pattern and i'll bet it floats better than on a full hook. Vern i was thinking the same thing but maybe Marty has a reason so we will wait for him. leaving the top piece sticking out the front would likely make a good skater too. thanks Marty and the pics look good too.
  7. i will try to explain it. they are figure eight tied in to begin with. you then take one turn around the wing base starting from behind the wing and from underneath over the top. you then pull the thread tight parellel to the shank toward the back of the fly the wrap tightly around the shank to anchor it. do this on each wing and somehow it spreads the fibers horizontaly. the sequence is shown very well in Randall Kaufmans dry fly book where he is doing turkey flat thorax wings. that is where i learned it.
  8. i have had great success with the dna winged spinner for the past several seasons. haven't tried the supe glue thing but if you just set them like any dry wing they will hold their shape very well. i also like it for midge wings for the same reasons and that it shows on the water well. here are some patterns i have had luck with involving dna. 9. i believe there is also a partridge cs102 which is heavier. also the daiichi 2161 and the 2061 are both curved shank spey type hooks but much heavier wire. the daiichi 2051 is a classic but may be light in the wire if you are potentialy hooking #20+ fish. for our GL fish i have never had one straighten.
  10. thanks folks it is still damn cold here too and the thoughts of big mayflies and rising fish are all consuming at this time of year. Roy- i wrap the hackle stem up the post verticaly with the thread and then wind the hackle back down. for the spinners i try to get 6-8 wraps of hackle since a lot will be trimmed off. i think some fish in very flat water notice the post but it is a consistant producer.

  12. if you are placing the hook in the slot in the jaws and it's say a 8 or smaller. the radius of the slot it bigger than the radius of the hook bend. this flexes the hook at the bend and when pushing on the deer it snaps. i had the same problem with the DK jaws and my soultion was to file them down to make the radius of the slot smaller and not stress the bend of the hook. it now holds small salmon hooks down to a 12 with no problem and very little jaw pressure since it fits in the slot so well. i have heard this complaint from several other tyers. this was many years ago for me and i have since gone to the HMH and love it.
  13. nothin to be sorry about! they only make the one BE AJ the standard return wire eye ones go up to 3/0. as you said before the 1.5 is the last legal one here in NY. for BE presentation hooks the Gaelic Supreme's are really nice and i think they do a 5/0 long dee type hook. that last smaller one looks real good too. was that hook originally the 2271 daiichi?
  14. the Daiichi AJ blind eye hook only comes in #1.5
  15. it's the same as Dave's flexement. use it for head cement or for coating feather slips for wing cases like on kaufmann stones or just to make tying hare's ears easier. it remains flexible when it dries and won't crack.
