  1. If you do not need true rotary, then i would say go with a regal vise. They will hold down to size 10 easily and up to size 6/0 Which will cover nearly all your needs for salt. It does rotate well enough for your needs. I tied thousands on mine, i moved on to a norvise because my needs changed. But i would recommend this highly. Get the c clamp and any old base if you want a pedistal. You cant go wrong. And they are always on that big auction site !

  2. Bob pop has a series of wool flies that he coats with silicone that cast like bullets when wet.

I made a bunch, they can be shaped to look like surf plugs and you can stagger colors similar to stacked deer hair. Check out his book for more details.

  3. I honestly cant remember. I had a kit which i messed around with, then i took a class and did the basics. Zug bug, pheasant tail, gnat, b n dace, mickey fin. But honestly i can not remember what was first. I know i loved streamers and tied hundreds which i lost and gave to friends. Still have a big box of things i tied back then.

  4. Not that base. This one is round and at least a foot across. Never ever seen one like it. Per orvis in boston it was a special edition made by regal specifically for orvis. It is still listed on the orvis site. You should check it out. Quite substantial.

  5. What do you use? and any recommendations? I have the hmh adaptor with 4 needles. But i see that many of the newer brands use the tapered needles. Have you tried the aftermarket needles in the hmh vise or would i be better off spending the 20 for the eumer adaptor which has the tapered needles included.

Also i hear about people tying on qtip tubes. I know those can get brittle. if i was to look for tubing from other sources what material should i focus on, teflon , pfte or something else.

    Thanks Pete
