  1. I have to make a comment about the norlander bobbin, I had one of norms earliest bobbins, it had an all metal tube instead of the all cermic tube he now offers. Well the tube finally said no mas.. And the solder joint failed.. I contcted norm and instead of having to buy a whole new bobbin norm provided me with the tube assembly for a small percentage of the whole setup. This is over 20 years old and just keeps on tying flies. Thanks again norm.

  2. Ultra Chenille is the smallest, reasonably priced chenille I have seen. I would personnel just use dubbing, although it may take a little longer it is much cheaper.

Go on the danville chenille website. They have a dozen sizes and many colors. You should find what you are looking for there.

  3. michaels has glues formulated to bond sheets together aileens is one and they work well. easy to build up layers and different color combinations. there are also foam companies that make this foam. look up eva foams on line, ufp technologies in georgetown mass is an example.

  4. today my mom gave me an old rabbit fur coat that was in her closet, so i took all of the lining and insulation out of and now i have a ton of zonker strips.

the only bad thing is, the pieces of rabbit hide they used were only about 3"x3" so i can't tie anything huge with them.

has anyone else ever done this?

i have been looking for a black one, you can spin up a ton of dubbing brushes with a single coat.

  5. you are going to get a lot of opinions on this.. some good some bad.. but if you are already balking at price try one before you buy it.. never want buyers remorse.. especially when it can be avoided.

take your time and try lots of vises before deciding.. heck i wanted a renzetti because i was

told it was great.. when i tried it.. i found it awkward and constantly needing adjustment..

do your self a favor.. try as many vises as you can before you decide on anything..

    you won't regret that..

btw.. i have a norvise.. i enjoy it.. does it do everything.. not yet for me as i am still learning how to tap its potential.. but i like it..

  6. as far as deer hide vs elk for caddis.. i think its mainly color... you can use hair from nearly that whole hide.. spinning deer hair is fun when you learn. packing deer hair is an art.. watch youtube for a ton of video... you can learn a lot there...

fly fishing in maine can be lots of fun... i fish the coast.. and occasionaly a few rivers..

  7. i'm sorry i can't remember the mag i picked up but it showed how to make spoons out of epoxy using silly putty for a mold. do you folks see this as cheating in fly fishing terms?
