  1. Spun deer hair will help make a muddler Minnow or similar fly neutral. You just have to play with the density of the hair and the weight on the hook. Irish the deer spinner
  2. Mark, When I got home from Mountain Home, I had my flies in the mail they are all neat. The photo of the Shadow Box is also good. What did it bring?? (My fly is btm row second form left) The river looks like it is almost fishable here so I may get them wet this weekend. Irish
  3. Dry and Low water, that was 2 years ago before Francis. We are still high, more like spring flows. Shoe, at 50 degrees in the rivers remember biger slower and deeper. Rivver smallies will be fatening up and moving to deeper wintering holes. By my river's case, based on Ivan etal data, those deep wintering holes have been substantially changed/moved. The davidson is starting to fish though. I use flies sixe 2, 1/0 that have lost of movement built into the materials. Rabbit and marabou. Even popcicles will work. or mongral buggers, A wooly bugger ackled with marabou. North Carolina moiuntian almost washed out Irish
  4. I have a vacation day I can burn during the week. The river here is fishable today and with 2 - 6 inches predicted tonight it will blow out and fish again in a week or so. The problem is no roads in the right spots. I will be in mountain Home Wednesday -saturday for the Southern council FFF conclave and will try out Crooked Creek and the Buffalo for smallies and may even get on the White for some of those other fish. I'll shout when I get back and we can set up my hooky Day Irish
  5. Also welcome aboard and thanks for the compliment. Perhaps we and Troutbum can meet up and complete his conversion to a smallie guy. Mrs. Irish has some church meetings this fall in Waynesville. I guess i need to come on over. Hopefully the flood repairs will be advanced enough to get somewhere. How did the pigeon above Lake Logan survive?? Irish
  6. The weatrherman is calling for only 2 inches of rain up here with this one.. I am also watching Ivan the second. May see some rain from him too. Stay dry Paul and I hope all is ok with your place in NC. Irish
  7. Troutbum, Bring that box when you come up to NC in Oct. I know a place you can use them. By then the river and ROADS ought to be fixed to where I can get a boat in. !0 ft of sand at the take out where you last fished and at the put in the buildings are gone. Most of the road had 3 - 8 ft of water running on it. Places are gone and being repaired. Pick a day and I will take it off and fish. Vacation to burn Irish Dave

  11. Saw a forcast for the mountains of Western NC with 6 - 9 inches rain from Ivan the terrible. There is a chance it will start tomorrow. Just when the river was looking good for a scouting trip. The main part is due Friday maybe. A gulf coast hit means more rain. I am really tired of this. Irish

  13. My irish will suprise this year. hopefully all willl be good Irish
  14. White Water is no problem but the boat is not armored against tree ramming. I'm not sure if there is enough time to steer the boat before ramming the bank where ever it is. The float you went on would be about 20 minutes today. I may get on it Saturday. The water is now only 4 ft above normal and clearing. Irish
  15. I got mine Today along with 13 feet of new water in my river. It should be down in time to fish next week. A great bunch of flies I will fish them and do well. Irish
  16. Paul, i'm glad to see you survivede the weekend. I to am beginning to not like hurricanes. That section of the River we floated is up 13 feet and on the road. Parts of Mitchell county with 14 inches of rain and 5 inches at my house just yesterday. All area rivers are having floods of record size. I hope that the NC place survived. I lost a really nice Bradford pear to winds last night. No damage to the rest of the house. The float would be a really quick one today. I would need to armor the cat to keep the trees off the boat. The holes have changed and when the river goes down I will fish it. Perhaps by next week. Irish
