  1. Unit Stonefly Found a video here; added an indicator since this one’s going to float low on the water. Tied here as a golden or short-wing, nocturnal stonefly. hook - WFC Model 6 #6 thread - Veevus 8/0 tan body - Starburst dubbing tan underwing - 2mm foam tan wing - Congo Hair Shiner Tan head/collar - moose body hair bleached legs - medium rubber golden stonefly indicator - 1mm foam orange Regards, Scott
  2. Thanks for the head’s up; fixed that link. Scott
  3. Bullethead Stone (variation) Found a video here. Not a huge fan of bulletheads any more because of their tendency to blossom after a fish or two but the segmented body makes for a nice effect. In these colors, this could pass as a golden or short-wing, nocturnal stonefly. Changed the tying sequence around, spinning the head first; I’ve done enough of these and found, for a neat, proportioned head, mine turn out better when I start with it. Also, if you have any dexterity in your fingers, don’t see a need for a bullethead tool (or having to cut/re-tie in thread - a lot of wasted wraps there). hook - WFC Model 6 #6 thread - Veevus 8/0 tan body - 2mm foam tan wing - Congo Hair Shiner Tan head/collar - deer hair bleached legs - medium rubber golden stonefly indicator - 1mm foam orange Regards, Scott
  4. X-Spruce Moth Variation on the X-Caddis; don’t think moths have shucks but it adds a bit of sparkle to the fly. hook - WFC Model 3 #12 thread - Veevus 8/0 tan shuck/underwing - Congo Hair Shiner Tan body - Starburst dubbing tan legs - pheasant rump wing/head - pronghorn hair Regards, Scott
  5. Spent Spruce Moth Borrowed the underwing/wing/head construction from Worleybugger’s Bullethead Poly Wing Skwala. Difference in color between the underwing and wing was minimal; may have to reconsider choices. hook - WFC Model 3 #12 thread - Veevus 8/0 tan rib - small wire gold body - Starburst dubbing tan body hackle - ginger shoulder - pheasant rump underwing - Congo Hair Shiner Tan wing/head - Congo Hair Tan indicator - 1 mm foam orange Regards, Scott
  6. Muddler Been away from the vise for over 2 weeks so I started with something familiar. Missing a third light so the pics are a bit darker than usual. hook - WFC Model 3 thread - Veevus 8/0 tan tail- Congo Hair Shiner Tan rib - small wire copper body - Starburst dubbing tan body hackle - ginger shoulder - pheasant rump collar/head - pronghorn Regards, Scott
  7. It works fine for the Loon Thin resin I use; no tack. Regards, Scott
  8. Crazy, yes? I found a battery powered UV flashlight at Home Depot for $12; works great. Regards, Scott
  9. Muddled Spruce Moth (Puterbaugh style) Started out as a completely different fly; the hook here is not optimal for a muddler head but there’s enough gap to hold a fish. hook - Sierra 2312bl #14 thread - Veevus 8/0 tan abdomen - Starburst dubbing tan overbody/underwing - 3mm foam tan wing- Congo Hair Shiner Tan shoulder - pheasant rump collar/head - pronghorn Regards, Scott
  10. Amber Caddis Pupa (variation) Here’s the SBS if you’re interested. Changed a few of the materials but the results are similar. hook - WFC Model 28 #12 thread - Uni 8/0 black underbody - medium tinsel opal abdomen - vinyl rib amber wingcase - 2mm foam brown thorax - Ice Dub Peacock Black legs - partridge Regards, Scott
  11. Rex, My apologies; I didn’t see that you had posted one a few days ago. No need to chew the same food twice. Regards, Scott
  12. Wiese’s Bob Hopper 2.0 (variation) Swinging back to the synthetic side. Here’s his video if you’re interested; don’t have one of the fancy foam body cutters (unlike Walter, I don’t have 300 dozen of them to tie this season), but 3 seconds with scissors works well enough for the trout I’ll find. hook - Sierra 2312bl #10 thread - Uni 6/0 tan underbody - Starburst Dubbing tan body/underwing/head - 2mm foam tan wing - Congo Hair Shiner Tan legs - medium rubber corn snake indicator - 1mm foam orange Regards, Scott

  14. Puterbaugh Caddis Variant I’ll fish this one as a caddis and spruce moth. hook - Sierra 2312bl #14 thread - Veevus 8/0 tan abdomen - dubbing cinnamon overbody/underwing - 3mm foam tan wing - pronghorn hair thorax - Sunburst dubbing tan hackle - ginger Regards, Scott
  15. Mathews’ Improved Sparkle Dun (variation) Tied this one as a March brown; here’s his video if you’re interested. hook - Sierra 2487bl #14 thread - Veevus 8/0 tan shuck/wing back - Congo Hair shiner tan abdomen - tying thread thorax - dubbing tan wing - caribou hair Regards, Scott
  16. March Brown Spundun Been away from the vise for a few days so I’ll start with something basic. First time using caribou for the wing; although this patch had a good bit of underfur to comb out (or whatever it’s called on an ungulate), it’s very easy to work with. Probably won’t get to fish the hatch here in Montana but it’ll work for the Hecubas in the fall, too. hook - WFC Model 3 #14 thread - Danville 6/0 tan shuck - Congo Hair brown rib - UniStretch brown abdomen - dubbing tan wing - caribou hair Regards, Scott
  17. Matt’s Caribou Caddis Here’s his video if you’re interested. Only thing I did differently was tie the underwing in along the sides; acts as outriggers and helps a little bit with floatation. hook - WFC Model 3 #14 thread - Uni 8/0 camel butt - yarn chartreuse body - dubbing Australian possum underwing - Congo Hair Shiner Tan wing - caribou head/collar - hare’s ear (touch dubbed) Regards, Scott
  18. Muddled Mother’s Day Caddis When in doubt, tie a muddler. hook - WFC Model 3 #14 thread - Veevus 8/0 black shuck - yarn chartreuse rib - xsmall wire chartreuse abdomen - medium tinsel peacock thorax - Ice Dub Peacock Black wing - Congo Hair Baitfish Grey collar/head - deer hair dyed dun Regards, Scott
  19. Tied Down Caddis (variation) Added a shoulder for a little more buggyness and left the butt ends a bit long to make a head. hook - DaI Riki 300 #8 thread - Uni 6/0 tan tail/shellback - deer hair body - dubbing hare’s ear body hackle - ginger shoulder- pheasant rump Regards, Scott
