  6. ray the tubing i use is callex portex labrartory tubing i use 2 sizes one fits in the other the tube lenght on my flies is 3 to 4cm the finished fly is 5 to 6cm hope this helps all the best john
  7. hi all i tied this for if the water ever drops it is tied on a size 12 partridge low water the original uses flat silver in the body but i think ice dub looks much better. this is the first time i used ice dub and i may replace it with flat silver in a lot of flies any way hope you like it all the best john

  11. thanks for the comments guys the shrimp style is my favourite type of salmon fly ray the holder is a woodwork project from the old shool days i think it was supposed to be a pen holder but i use it for drying varnished flies all the best john
  12. hi all have spent the last couple of weeks in the saltwater however unusal heavy rain has left good water in the rivers which should have a few salmon and white trout running this fly should do both i have never seen this pattern lised in books before but i first seen it in a shop many years ago it has worked particulary well for white trout the red head and silver hook were my own thoughts i dont know the name for this shrimp im sure it has one but ill stick with silver for the minute anyway hope you all like it all the best john

  15. hi all just a simple tie for the sea trout which are just starting to run a little easier to tie than the temple dogs this is tied on a 1 and a half inch tube which is just a little big anyway will go it a swim as it is the smallest aluminium tubes i have at the moment hope you like it all the best john

  17. Hywel In ireland claret is a popular colour for all species i notice some excellent steelhead hairwings on the forum one thing i have noticed is that the wing is tied fairly short hairwings in ireland and uk are tied much longer funny the difference in styles all the best john

  21. hi all i havent posted in awhile just to say firstly some excellent flies being posted this is my first salmon fly in a while i got some alec jackson hooks so i had to tie something, they are beautiful hooks next time i tie this i will ease off on the black i wish to create a fly that is a lighter colour hope you all like it all the best john
