  1. Fish-N-Chip Very nice looking fly! Care to share any tying instructions? I made it to the Salmon River for the first time this fall. Fished the Altmar area, wall to wall fishermen! Hooked up on several nice salmon, beautiful weather - over all a great day of fishing! Can't wait to go again next fall... Tom
  2. dabalong, The tying instructions can be found on the www.steelheading101.com website. This does look like an interesting and productive fly. Just waiting on my diamond braid order from Green Caddis and I'll be tying up a variety of colors myself. Good Luck Tom
  3. Dfix, I picked up one of those folding lights from Staples last weekend (less then 20 bucks). What a difference! The light quality from the full spectrum bulbs is excellent. I like the fact that I can move the light around to position it where I want it when I'm tying. Much better then the "clamp-on" gooseneck lamp with 60 watt bulb that I was using. Thanks for the tip! Tom
  4. bear coat, I have used the Joe's Smelt pattern trolling to catch Ice-out lake trout (never tried them on steelhead). It's hard to find material suppliers that sell the pintail feathers. That may be why they are hard to find? That said, I have seen finished flies that can be purchased on the web. I seem to remember that there are some fly suppliers in Maine that do still sell pintail feathers as well. The pattern is excellent and worth the time and effort to tie. Tom
  5. Yes, "Flies for Bass and Panfish" by Dick Stewart and Farrow Allen is a nicely written and illustrated book. Lots of interesting patterns. Glad you enjoyed the flies and I look forward to seeing all of the swappers work. Tom

  8. Never been bitten, however I have been wading in the local trout stream and felt something bumping into my leg. When I looked down I saw it was a snapping turtle maybe about 1-1/2 to 2 foot round. Startled me a bit to see him by my leg. tom
  9. ...down to the wire.... ok redneckfisherman...I have room for one more fly swap ...if there is still room sign me up...not sure what I'll tie at this point.... Tom
