  1. I'm in. Carp? St. Maries? Where you thinkin' 'bout? Al
  2. Same as always for me.: 1.) More time on the water 2.) 14"+ brookie (don't I wish) 3.) Hit the Pink run w./ fly-rod (talked about it forever, never tried it) Al
  3. I remember one time back in High school me and some friends were swimming out to a sand-bar a couple hundred yards off shore in a local lake. A small tiger-muskie swam up and took a tug at my buddies nipple. Didn't hurt him any, but I don't remember him swimming in the lake too much after that. Al
  4. That's deffinately a cool looking fly LK. Have you fished it? I just wonder how durrable those biots would be wrapped like that. Do they hold up? Al
  5. Na, squeeze a little floatant into it and it'll ride Just fine (just barely beak the surface if at all). I'll bet it kills the trout in the spring. Al
  6. As far as dry flies go, I'd say anything with grizzy hackle tip wings. Adams and mosquito patterns with this material, I've found will catch at least some fish an almost any situation. I know an old man up in Rosscommon who ties a crude hex pattern of tan foam, some white rubber legs, and four big grizz' hackle tips for wings. That pattern consistantly outfishes even the most realistic of patterns I've tied/tried. As far as an all around material, I've got to agree with pecock hurl. Fish just can't seem to resist that stuff. Hmmm, maybe I'll have to try and cross a coatchman w./ an adams this summer and see how they like it. Al
  7. Beer. I find myself much more creative and willing to try anything under the influence of beer. I owe many of my descoveries/inventions to beer. Wouldn't be without it behind the vice. Al
  8. Kenai River boy I take it? What a blast that would be. Al
  9. Yup. The cans are tough. My best was chickens too. Al
  10. Here's another one. Have fun. TRAPSHOOT Al
  11. Todder, Get ahold of your buddy Gary "Koz" from the dart league. He's my regular fishing partner durring trout season. Taught the boy everything he knows (ain't much) . I'm sure we could improve those numbers if you're up to it. I hope to get his ass in the water alot more this year too. Any friend of Gary's is a friend of mine. Let us know. Al
  12. I was in there just today Steve, after a trip to south branch outfitters in Rochester only to discover that they were "closed for the season". Your right. It is smaller than it used to be in the Orvis shop. Different colors of this and that all on the same hook didn't make it any easier to find what I was looking for either. Ended up buying a pack of mono-eyes and asking directions to fly-mart. What a world of difference. I don't think I've ever been to that place, but they had everything. Wall to wall fly-tying materials. Found everything I needed, and I know what my first stop is gonna' be the next time I'm in the Royal Oak area after tying supplies. It was all right there, and I didn't have to wade through a sea of tweed jackets and coffee-cups to find it. That's a nice shop. Al
  13. I've alway's used a few drops of liquid dish-soap. Works great. Al
  14. I've heard the same BDH. "Watershed" works pretty good, but even the guys I bought it from at the fly shop told me that "Thompson's" is the best. Got a tip from TODDFATHER recently that may just be the ultimate in floatant thuogh. It's an archery product called "fletch-dry" (I think). Archers use it on there arrows to water-proof traditional feather fletchings. It comes in a powder form like "Frog's Fanny", but you can get ALOT more for your money. He claimes that if you brush it into your fly, you can actually float a bead-head. Haven't tried it yet, but I will be experimenting this spring. Al
  15. Hmmmmm. A little red never hurts. I'm bettin' on the top fly as your killer Ralf. Nice job. Good luck!! A
  16. Did he get a new bass boat too or is this someone else? Al
  17. You can see the fish as shadows in the water. You have to time youre release so your lure/fly hits the target fish when it splashes. The fish move at different speeds, so you've got to select your targetts accordingly. Generally speaking, I've found the faster fish to usually be steelies or big kings, but I've been surprised from time to time. Lead the fish acording to the speed its travelling. That's the key. Good luck!! Al
  18. Ah, I guess you guy's are just lame, or chicken or somethin' . up to 482lbs. of fish. 5 kings-305lbs 3 sockeyes-63 lbs 2 dollys-31 lbs 4 steelhead-83lbs Al
  19. Okay, I'm startin' to get something going on that Kenie river game. Up to 365lbs. of fish.: 3 kings-183lbs. 6 sockeyes-78lbs. 5 dollys-64lbs. 2 steelhead-40lbs Anybody else try this one yet? Al

  21. Sounds like he's alive Red'. Just saw his name on this post on M-S tonight. Seems a few of the boy's gonna' be big T.V. stars in a couple weeks. Ice Fishing Al
  22. Pretty much all the bass fishing I do is on still water. I mostly use crayfish when in deeper water, but in the shallows I almost always take 'em twitching a big foam draggonfly. This year I wanted to try coming up with a weedless mouse pattern to drag through the pads. Al
