  1. I was fishing Dog Nobblers in the seventies at various British Stillwaters It is not a Woolybugger of any kind. It was tied with a lead shot at the head and fished on both floating and sinking lines. It was effective when fished in tandem with a Booby, especially at Graham water. Ah such fond memories.

  2. I just paid a goodly sum for a Cree cape and am disappointed. I have bought some Cree 100 packs of Whiting and they were great. Colors jumped out at your and they were all there. This Cree cape is not much more than a barred ginger. No distinct white and black in it at all. Looks like a Cree that faded out. The feathers themselves are great and lot of distinct sizes and fairly long usable lengths for a cape, but as a Cree a definite disappointment from what I hoped for when I paid more for it than I did for 5 different colored half capes combined.

Now i'm worried, I ordered a Whiting Cree Cape from featheremporium and Im concerned it won't be any better than the Metz that I have already have, still they have a good return policy. We shall see

  3. The man who was making the pamola lathe was older. Perhaps he retired. Maybe someone could start making these again. I am sure the design plans could be obtained if he is still alive. It was made before its time.
I finally opened one of my boxes of vises from storage. Lo and behold, the Pamola was in that box.I am posting a couple photos. I believe a couple folks might be interested in buying. There is a little rust on the rotary clip on arm. Otherwise, I think it is rust free. Looks very good to me anyway.First 400.Thanks,Byronphoto-15.jpgphoto-17.jpgphoto-16.jpgphoto-18.jpg

Not divert the thread, but I see you have. Jvise with the Dammacus jaws. How do you like it? Would you recommend buying one? How freely does it spin?

    Thanks

    Barry

  4. Frequent tyer, I have a J vise and don't feel it is over engineered either, I just wanted to point out that they are not a flimsy fairy vise but a practical piece of kit.

I will stick to my original thought though that the vise brand is unlikely to be a solution, it is what is breaking the jaws that needs fixing. Renzetti, peak, danvise, etc etc all have strong followings for good reason.

Tying with the hook close to the end of the jaws is a problem, I've seen may a regal vise with chipped jaws for the same reason, tool steel tends to be very brittle.

  5. Would love a Damaseal, but as a guide it's out of my price bracket. I hate to say it, but the CAE vise, which is a Law Copy, looks very interesting But his web site leaves a lot to be desired. Mhhh, thinks, my is not all that great!

  6. Barry:

You are breaking jaws tying for the Lower Sac.? What the heck are you tying? Have you thought of a Dyna King instead of a J-vice? Local manufacture of a tried and true product as opposed to a very pretty vise from South Africa? Not that the J-vise is not a good looking tool, and certainly has collect a number of vocal fans on this board, but entropy works against all things, and I'd rather not have to cross oceans just to get a vise fixed. YMMV.

I must admit the last jaw I broke, the second one over the last few years , was tying a saltwater fly down here inLa Paz where I am for a while. You guessed right I usually tie 12 - 18's for the Lower Sac. Maybe I put just to much pressure on the hook, but if I back off Ive had small hooks slip with the cam jaws.

Another question I have is does the J Vice have ball bearings since I like to spin once in a while!

    Thanks for all the replies

    Barry
