Sheepshead

Recommended Posts

Yea, I spent my morning

standing on a sandbar casting

to sheepshead that would've

sooner puked up their sandfleas

than looked twice at my offering.

If anyone can point me to a good

sandflea pattern that would be

awesome. I've only caught sheepies

on live bait so if anyone has taken

them on fly I'd love to hear about

what kind of leader, tippet, etc.

There's a guy in St. Pete who has been working on a sand flea pattern. I'm trying to get one of them through a mutual friend but the guy wants a Green Highlander in trade. I'm not sure it's worth a fully dressed Atlantic, maybe I can talk him down to a Spey.

I'll share it here on the forum when I get it.

Thanks H2O, I'm going to tie some and try them in Ocean City, MD this fall. Try to see if I can get A Tautog or Seabass to bite.

Cool!

Do y'all have pompano

up there? They're runnin'

down here right now and

fleas really kill 'em.

I think Pompano move through there. Maybe they'll be there in September when I'm down there.I would like to catch a few of those.

Try this one.. it is a mole crab pattern.. very similar to a sand flea. At least in the pics I've seen of a Mole Crab vs Sand Flea.

Holey Moley pattern

Hey thanks Rick,

That's a cool site!

Definitely one for the favorites.

And you're right that is a very similar profile thumbsup.gif

Glad I could point you to a site you enjoy. ASWF is a great site for ideas, some of the video clips have been a great source of learning for me.

I get down to the Tampa area 3-4 times a year to fish the flats and hoping to hit some Pompano this June from the beach. I tie a slightly different version of the mole crab pattern and we'll see if I can entice a Pompano or two with it.

Outstanding!,

I grew up down that way, just a quick shot

over I-4 in Lakeland (name says it all). That

area is a true paradise for anyone who likes to fish.

Best of luck.
