Lance Kekel 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2005 I've had some luck on them midges over there but they're a real basic pattern. A very sparse hackle fiber table (3-4 fibers) A slightly dubbed body (cream or black) and 2-3 turns of matching hackle. On average I've actually had better luck on those streams with very small beetles or griffiths gnats. I was over on Wednesday and it looked like they were midging and could not break the curse. After an 2 hrs of messing with several tiny flies I swapped over to an 18 griffiths gnat and suddenly action picked up. I also had some early success with small black beetles but only had two with me and the trees ate them right after I caught a fish on each of them. I often wonder on days like that if they're not actually midging but just munching on low floating beetles that you just can't see well.
