Oliver Edwards Interview For Hatches.

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone,

I recieved a call this morning from a good friend and found out that Oliver Edwards has agreed to do an interview for Hatches Magazine! I would like to know some questions you guys would like to see in the interview. Anything regarding tying to fishing styles should be great.

As you all may or may not know Oliver Edwards ties coldwater flies especially semi realistics. He also has a DVD series and has written the very hard to get "Fly Tyers Masterclass". He is in the works to come out with more videos and maybe a second edition to his book. Please reply with your questions and we will pick what we feel is the best questions and forward them to Mr. Edwards.

The reason for two interview mentioned at once is that the correspondence between Oliver and I was agreed upon to take about a month. Oliver is very busy with many projects. So I am going to need the questions well in advance to make it into Hatches in a timely order. The deadline to submit your questions is June 1st.

So please guys lets put together a great interview with about 12 to 20 questions. I will have to take some time to compile my own questions...

I've heard his name thrown around here and there, but haven't seen any of his work. Any websites that might inspire a question or two?

Wow I can't believe it, I think we can do better than this.

Who or what has inspired your style of tying?

Who has been your biggest influence in fly tying?

Are there any planned projects for the future (DVDs and or books)?

One of my favorite flies of yours is the Mohican mayfly, how did you come up with such a unique way to tie such a fly?

More to come...

How did he develop all the cool patterns he has come up with over the years, and why?

I am not sure but did he not invent the footprint dun? If so could he explain more about it?

Where is his favourite place to fish, why and with what flies?

What are his favourite species to fish for?

Any tips on tying his patterns?

Who influenced his tying?

Has becoming a famous fly fisher (Videos, articles etc.) changed his life and if so how?

Any new works, articles, books, videos in the making?

What tying books or source for tying information would he recomend?

Is he a member of this forum?

Sam...

1. What is your opinion on the "realistic" side of fly tying?

2. How do you think tying will evolve in the next 5 years?

3. If you had only 6 flies to use what would they be?

4. What are some of the most common mistakes made by tyers?

Hope this helps. Thom
