Favorite Caddis Pupa Patterns

Recommended Posts

Looking through my nymph box I realize I'm definately lacking caddis pupa patterns. Right now I just have a Caddis hook with a bead head and buggy olive dubbing. Just out of curiosity what are some good ones to tie? Thanks.

Maybe LaFontaine's Emergent Sparkle Pupa in olive; blackish; cinammon; grey; tan; brown. More often now I throw a brown partridge soft hackle between the body and the thorax instead of using a deer hair wing.

Others:

Czech Pupa

Viking Pupa

Hey hooligan,

Viking Pupa:

Hook: Knapek Barbless Hook (Czech Republic):

Wet Fly #12; or similar barbed hook.

Thread: Jan Siman's Hyperfine Thread:

Black (2-stranded monofilament). Or a 8/0 (70 denier) thread.

Body: Chartreuse/Green Crystal Antron Jan Siman

Dubbing Brush; Clear Antron; few strands of Rusty

Brown Z-Lon.

Rib: Fine Silver Mylar Tinsel.

Hot Spot: Red Antron Dubbing.

Thorax: Jan Siman Thorax (deer hair) Dubbing, Brown.

Of course, this all can be simplified but it's the way I first saw it tied by a Norwegian friend. Jan Siman's materials: http://shop.siman.cz/.
