A bead head glow bug is standard fare around here for stockers. I usually use a gold bead to add a bit of flash.

what I use are small beads that are the color of roe and thread them onto a 12lb. test mono and tie those on a #10 caddis hook.loop them aroung the hook untill you are satisfied with the look then add some milty veil material for effect.unbelievable when fish get on them.

I made some cheap dispensers a while back by removing the guts of cheap bic pens so that I only had the plastic shaft and the tapered end piece. Then I cut the tapered end piece to the desired size. The work well and you already have a pen around. The cauling tips sound like a goo didea too. I might give them a try myself.
