KevCompton 0 Report post Posted February 29, 2008 Hi Paul, Nice looking bug. The tie is very neat & clean. Thanks for sharing. How do you like the Akita hooks, particularly the barbless Akita hooks? Do they fish as well as the Knapeks? Thanks, Kevin
Soft-hackle 0 Report post Posted February 29, 2008 Super! Should knock'em dead. Mark
Mice 0 Report post Posted February 29, 2008 Thank you Kevin, Very good Akita barbless hooks are: 706 BL for nymph, pupa, emerger, and extented body dry flies 503 BL 509 BL dry fly 709 BL weighted big nymph I make alot flies on Akita hooks, because internet shop I use sells Akita, Partridge and Knapek. In the other store TMC , but i dont buy there too often. I dont use Knapek hooks but my colleagues, great flyfishers, say they are very good. Professionals use these hooks, and they know whats good and whats better. I dont fish at fishing contests , and Knapek are good, but ugly IMO. As fore other BL hooks TMC 2499 SP BL are also recommended, as nimph and scud hooks. Paul
dwiltshire 0 Report post Posted February 29, 2008 love it! An allround superb tie. Envious? Oh yes...
KevCompton 0 Report post Posted February 29, 2008 Thanks, Paul. I agree, the TMC 2499SP-BL is a great hook -- expensive, but worth it. And it goes down to a (large) #18. Are Akita hooks less expensive than those 'ugly' Knapeks? I agree somewhat with your description, but would say 'nasty', too. Taimen? Kevin p.s. Look for a PM, Paul. mwtroubum 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2008 Is it....Yes it is....a Quill body!!!!! I am simply consumed by these right now, and its all A.K. Best's fault. Now you are just feeding the fire . Very nice tie.....due you glue your quill bodies at all? I haven't, there so fun to tie I don't mind going thru them...lol......but my fishing partner asked me and then I check in and see yours so I figured I would ask...If you do, do you coat the base and then wrap the quill? Mice 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2008 I don't use glue. I tie cock quill wet. Kevin Very nasty , indeed. :help: Yes, akita hooks are much cheaper than knapki and a little cheaper than tmc. I dont buy them because they are cheper. They are very good hooks and I like them. Yes, Taimen. The world is small.
