BKAFLY 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2008 Hello my name is Brian. Ive been reading the posts on here on and off and finally decided to register. Do any of you guys tie soft hackles with hen pheasant? I havent seen much about using hen feathers. I usually tie up some size ten soft hackles that work real well for bluegills, crappie, etc..

Soft-hackle 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2008 Hi BKA, Hen pheasant are probably every bit as good as partridge for tying soft-hackles. I myself have not used them and would be concerned as to size, but like partridge, I'd assume, that smaller feathers can be found on a full skin. Don't dismiss the primary feathers for winging mottled wet flies like the Hare's Ear and March Brown. My good friend Mike Connors has some great information on pheasant and its use. Look here: Pheasant Once you start looking at Mike's site, I'm sure you'll get lost in his great information regarding soft-hackles. My best, Mark
