Hey yall. I posted this in the fly fishin section but didnt get any replys so I figured Id try it here. At the end of this month we are taking a trout fishing trip in East Tennessee. My problem is I have no idea what kinda flies trout like. I know some people use sweet corn as bait and the rod and reel guys use spinners and stuff like that but what kinda flies do they like? Im gunna do some research on it before we go but I appreciate any help I can get from here. Thanks in advance ttyl and tight lines.-Tim smile.gif huh.gif

Tim,

Some basic patterns to always have in your box that i always have in it are:

BH Hare's Ears

BH Pheasant tails

and some terrestrials like ants.

No fly box is complete with out a staple set of flies, regardless what creek you fish.

Mine would be.

Sub surface:

Buggers- Brown/black/ olive

Hares ear nymph

Pheasant tail nymph

Prince nymphs

Zug bugs

On the surface:

Adams dry fly.

Ant/cricket/beetle patterns.

I don't care what creek you fish. If you present one of the patterns above correctly, you should catch fish.

I didn't mention any sizes. Because your fly box should have all the patterns in different sizes.

Good luck and make sure you let us know how you did.

Tim,

Elk hair caddis and stimulators work very well on the small streams in the GSMNP. If you're fishing some of the larger rivers, check with the local fly shops or hatch charts that are posted on the net.

If you're going to be near Gatlinburg, try the Little River.
