foam ant

hi yall i know there are a couple of foam patterns in the data base ,,,but the one i found is in round foam ....i dont have round foam ,,,,i am looking for a few foam patterns for size 10 -12 ,,,any help thank you

foam ants cut from 2mm foam- hook gap length of the size hook your using.The cheronybly ant,same way.Just cut a v shape at both ends and form a segmented body.Add rubber legs for movement

If you have thicker foam, sharpen the edges of a .22 cal spent case and use that as a punch, you will have round foam in a good size for a nice ant.

1 minute ant.

 

Here's the preparation work.

Go to harborfreight.com or a harbor freight store.

Buy a set of hollow punches (9 piece set for $5)

Get some closed cell foam (best place online is softtiles.com) often called flip flop foam

Punch out some small cylinders

Get some small stiff hackle ready.

 

How to:

Put a thread base on the hook

Tie down the foam cylinder to the hook

Wrap the hackle in the indentation made by tying down the foam.

Finis -- one minute (maybe 30 seconds)

I would have never thought of that! thanks saltydog!

guess I am gonna have to save some "brass" from Stress Relief...i mean Prairie dog huntin....hmmmm..wonder if PD fur is usefull to any flies?
