Kirk Dietrich 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2011 Those are great looking! I like the long saddles for the tail. You mind sharing your source for the saddles you're using for tails? I've been trying to find some saddle patches with long thin, dry fly looking, feathers like those. Kirk
smalliestalker 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2011 thanks all...I bought some saddles from a discount bin at a show through Keough...
Kirk Dietrich 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2011 Thanks, I was thinking maybe the $20 - $25 Metz saddles. You were in the right spot at the right time. Nice use of them for sure.
onceahoosier 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2011 Fabulous work. Once again, I'm blown away by the colors, they look great! I have a variety of Cabelas saddles, they are relatively inexpensive and would work well for flies like this. They're not so good for splaying a tail, they are very straight. mdraft1 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2011 can you take a picture holding one of the flies for size reference? I'm trying to figure out how large the spun section is on a 7" fly.
David Mac 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2011 These are a group of divers that I just made for a friend of mine that guides Pike in Finland. 4/0 Gamakatsu saltwater hooks, they are all about 7 inches long.... Beautiful flies. How about a step by step? I am not a Pike FF, but they look like they would be great to tie. Here is Pike Fly from a Pro Tyer friend from Denmark Called a Pike Fly, but I can see many additional categories for this beauty. I purchased this from the tyer ( Finn Jensen from Denmark ) for my personal collection. He described it as follows - Tied on Partridge Ad Swier hooks size # 8/0, Black. - Long, soft Icelandic Sheep Hair give the fly a total length of 8 inches. - Crystal Flash in wing gives extra attraction benefits - The black bars in wings are NOT painted with a marker but bleached direct in to the Sheep Hair. (a specialty of mine) - Hand-Painted Epoxy Eye, Holographic in orange and black. - Hand-tied and signed by Finn Jensen ( finalist in several categories in the 2010 Mustad Scandinavian Open Contest. <º))))>< David Mac
