clouserfreak 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2011 Hi, I'm new to the forum and have been tying mostly trout flies for the last ten years. I live in Southern Cal.(please don't hold it against me) and fish in the Sierras and some local waters. I was wondering if you had any tips for stacking hair on flies like the Swimmy Jimmy specifically where the hair is stacked on opposite sides of the hook instead of after one another down the shank? Do you use any base on the hook to prevent from spinning? Any special threads helpful? Thank you in advance for responses. Peace, Rob
perchjerker 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2011 To accomplish what you are seeking to do; simply stack a clump of hair on one side of the hook; pretending that the side is the BOTTOM of the hook, and then do the same thing directly opposite the first bunch;but this time pretending that it is the TOP of the hook. Voila'! You now have two stacked clumps, one on each side of the hook, opposite one-another. perchjerker

Fly Tyer Guy 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2011 To stack hair of either side of the hook, as soon as the hair starts to flare put your finger on the hook shank opposite the deer hair, and then pull the thread tight. Having your thumb there acts as a sort of shield to prevent the hair from coming to the other side of the hook shank. From here the deer hair will act as the shield until you move ahead to the next section. Hope this helps, FTG
