MIKE*A 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2004 This was discussed last winter, but I was unable to locate it.....I found the discussion on tanning hides......I am in the process of drying some pheasant skins, but want to make sure i don't bring any critters in the house (or anyone elses house) when I'm done......any suggestions on what to do? I haven't seen any evidence of any kind of infestation, but want to play it safe...... thanx, Mike
Guest Report post Posted November 26, 2004 Someone told me that freezing them for a week, then thawing for a couple of days then re-freezing will take care of any crittters.
Guest Report post Posted November 26, 2004 Also heard that putting them in the microwave between freezings(is that a word?) helps.
MIKE*A 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2004 I remembered the part about the microwave from last winters discussion, but wasn't sure if that was only for fur......i was afraid the microwave might damage the veins on the feathers......what do you think. I have a big deep freeze so I will definitely do that though, thanx guys.
Guest Report post Posted November 26, 2004 Hello Mike, all I do to mine is make sure they are cleaned good. Then I borax them to death. Meaning I put each bird into a seperate ziploc bag and pour borax all over it and let them sit for a couple of weeks. Then take them out and dust off of the borax then put them back into the bag.
