I typically fish with a 7 wt bass taper and sometimes an 8 wt floating line. I entered some assumptions into leadercalc and came up with the following: 9' Standard Bass leader tapered to 2X tippet Diameter -- Length .018" -- 36" .014" -- 24" .012" -- 12" .011" -- 12" .010" -- 6" .009"(2X) -- 18" Or you can use .008"(3X) tippet for the last section. Join the sections with blood knots. I seem to remember that a blood knot takes a little over an inch to tie, so account for that when measuring. Leadercalc is free and easy to use, but you need Microsoft Excel. I wish it was available when I started. Good luck.
