Chefben4 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2012 So I have a post going in the saltwater forum with this, but thought I'd also post it up here to make it easy to find. Its a pattern I have been working on that I call the swingin' shrimp. Any input would be great as its a work in progress. Looking forward to testing it out. Material List: 40mm Senyo Intruder Shank (Pink) Berkley Fireline Size 2 Owner Octopus Hook Bead Chain Eyes (or lead) Pink 6/0 Thread Orange Ice Dub Eyes (hard mono with 6/0 glass beads CCG'd to it) Bonefish Tan Finn Raccoon Tan Ice Dub Golden Stone Spirit River Intruder Hackle Shrimp Pink Ice Dub Here is a picture of the intruder shank with fireline tied in for the hook. I tie in the fireline along the shank then fold it over itself and tie down. NOT gonna budge this way. I also use some Zap to ensure its strength. As you can also see, tying is very difficult with a kitten who thinks everything is a toy. Add weight. This one I used bead chain instead of lead. Gotta have a variety of weights Dub the spawn sack. I use the split thread method. Seems durable. Add the eyes. Make sure they are long enough. FLASH!! Well and "antennae". I used black krystal flash. Tie in first go round' of finn raccoon. I suck at dubbing brushes, so this is just tied in after I roll it around the shank. Tan Ice dub. Again, the split thread method. Next batch of finn raccoon. Tie in spey hackle. This was Spirit River Intruder hackle (golden stone) Dub some more! I split the thread and did tan ice dub on top then pink ice dub. Tie in last bit of finn raccoon. Clean up head if you choose and epoxy the head. BAM! You got my swingin' shrimp version 1.0! Im still in the process of messing with this. Have some new material coming my way that I may add to it. Hopefully you all enjoy. ANY input would be greatly appreciated.
mikechell 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2012 I love the kitty. Pound kitten, looking at the ear? For me, the cry of "More cowbell" that for some reason seems to be the rage among some of my students, should be changed to "More rubber legs!" That's a good looking fly ... and it really doesn't need any changes as far as I can see. But I really like how a couple of rubber legs add a buggy feel to any lure. Chefben4 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2012 Thanks mike! She was a rescue from my stepmoms coworker who found her in her engine compartment after driving 15 miles! The fan cut off the top of her ear, other then that she came out a-ok at only a few weeks old! I love adding in rubber legs as well! Ill have to try it on one of these!
