WhiteBuffalo58 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2012 Just got my J. Stockard "Beginner's Fly Tying Vise and Tool Kit" in. It came with what they're calling a "Materials Spring". Can someone tell me what it's used for and how to use it? Thanks, Rob
flytire 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2012 its used to hold longer materials such as peacock herl or tinsels etc out of the way while you work on the body of the fly
mikechell 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2012 It sits on the shaft of your vise, behind the fly. So, as flytire said, any material that "hangs from the back" of your fly until your ready for it, can be laid in it, to keep it from draping down under your work. WhiteBuffalo58 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2012 Ahh...ok, I get it. Yah, i've seen pics of vises with the spring around it. I didn't realize that's what it was there for. Another one of my "DUH" moments! Thanks guys, Rob
