FrequentTyer 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2013 You asked for opinions...so None of the above. I use 8/0 Uni and control the number of wraps. From #28 tricos to #8 stimis it works fine. And it limits the number of spools I have to keep stocked and stored. Mike.
hopperfisher 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2013 Good advice, Frequent, I've been doing the mostly but even controlling my wraps seems to make my little guys too bulky. I've tried using one wrap to hold and move on but it never seems to work out. I just bought some 17/0 uni on the big auction site to try out. Thanks everyone !!! Piker20 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2013 using a wax on the thread will really help reduce the wraps it takes to hold stuff. Can make the thread a bit stodgy on tiny flies though.
Ed Gallop 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2013 I keep a spool on hand but only for sparse tiny flies like size 24 to 28. It is nice when a very minimum buildup is desired but the breaking tension is awful light. I like Benecchi, Griffiths, and other thin thread for normal tying with little buildup. Never tried Veevus, Caenis or TMC. I have too much thread as it is.
