Rocco 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2017 I think the original started with the a body hair tail; the fine gold belly under hair mixed in a blender with finely chopped sparkle yarn for a bit of flash as dubbing; wound over with a strip of copper wire; a rough dubbed thorax made from the spiky brown back hair with a a high gloss strip of wide reflective flashas a shell case over the thorax; and soft hackle legs.. At least that is the version I settled on and it works great weighted or unweighted in all nymph sizes. I never could get enough of the gold belly fox squirrel hair or find a suitable substitute. moucheur2003 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2017 I never could get enough of the gold belly fox squirrel hair or find a suitable substitute. Bleached Australian opossum is very close. I have some that varies from cream to rusty tan. Within that range is a tone that matches red fox squirrel belly very well.
