  1. Sweet pics. Thanks for sharing. Where were these photos taken?
  2. We had a great sunset here in Utah today. It's been snowing off and on for the last 48 hours and then today is was blue bird skies. I happen to peek out the window this evening....had to grab the camera real quick. I didn't have the tripod available but was able to get a few good pics. And yes, I've got the best view in the neighborhood. ;-)
  3. Matt, I got the S5 IS about 3 months ago and have really liked it so far. The range of features is incredible. So far the quality of the pictures I've taken are top notch. I'm still learning all the cool features it has to offer. Three cool features I like about it: Super Macro feature for taking pics of flies, great telescopic lens, and Image Stabilizer. Here's a few pics I recently took using the Super Macro mode. BTW, I paid about $300 for mine but ended up spending another $200 for accessories and upgrades and such.
  4. So what's the trick to doing timed exposures? I recently got a Canon S5 IS and I'm still learning all of it's features but I couldn't find anything in my "manual" about timed exposures. Is there a universal feature in digital cameras that I should be looking for? Any help for this nooby would be great. I'm really interested in doing some timed exposures on moving water. Thanks.
  5. The Wasatch Fly Tying & Fly Fishing Expo 2008 will be held May 1-3. This is a Utah Trout Unlimited sponsored event. It will be held in Sandy, Utah (near Salt Lake City). Our guest speaker/tyer will be Kelly Galloup. This is our second annual event and should be even better than last year. There will be tons of demo tyers, vendors, classes, workshops, auctions, raffles, etc. It should be a great expo and hope to see you there. New for this year we'll be putting on a mini fly fishing film festival to kick off the expo on Thursday night. It should be awesome. May 1st: Wasatch Fly Fishing Film Festival May 2nd: Wasatch Tying Expo (half day) May 3rd: Wasatch Tying Expo all day; banquet/auction in the evening Contact Jason at jason @ utahflydrifters.com for more info.
  6. I agree. The biggest problem...especially out here in the West, is there are so many shows, either it be the ISE show, retailers show, fly tying expos, FFF conclaves, etc. It's difficult to try and plan around everyone else's shows. I'm thinking of creating a website dedicated just to fly fishing themed shows and expos across the country and use it as a national resource.
  7. With all the fly tying and fly fishing expos popping up across the country, I think it would be nice to get an ongoing list of all the upcoming events for 2007/2008. It would be nice to know when are where these events will be taking place so that others can plan accordingly, etc. If you are planning an event or know of one, please post it here. Maybe the moderators can "stick" this thread and keep it towards the top.
  8. Here's what I found. http://www.flyfisherman.com/ftb/ssmaterials/index17.html
  9. Scott Sanchez has a fly called the Sluggo. Do a search on the internet....I'm sure you'll find something. I also believe there was a recent article in American Angler that had the Sluggo. It might be something you're looking for.
  10. Thanks guys for the recommendations. I will head to the local shops and see what I can find. I think I've found that most shops don't usually carry the light wired scud hooks....maybe I'm not looking close enough. I'll let you know what I find.
  11. The majority of the emergers I tie are tied with scud hooks but I'm noticing that most of the scud hooks I use are pretty heavy duty - heavier. Is there a good scud shaped hook that is light weight that would be best for emergers? Any recommendations?
  12. QUOTE (mayflyman @ Apr 19 2005, 05:54 PM) Hi Guys, just wanted to know if the challange was still going and if so, thought I might tie a fly..........let me know what you think 'cause I have just joined the forum a couple of days ago, so I'm still trying to find my way a bit. Thanks P.S Great site........and some great flies!! Ding, Ding, ding, I think we have a winner. Mayflyman, I think you should change your name to CaddisMan. Excellent tie.
  13. Realistic or not, I think it will catch a few fish. Great tie Graham.
  14. Nightfish, I can't believe you forgot to put my name down. LOL. I think your list is one of the best. I guess it doesn't hurt to be a fly rep either. Nightfish basically rubs shoulders with the big boys for a living. Lucky guy.
