First 15 to commit and myself So that's 15 flies each. Due April 15. Its your own return!! Frank aka Student4ever: No Name but it killed them on Roche Lake last year. 2. Got Mine Today.... Great Ties!! I will be giving them to my older brother who lives back in Minnesota. He has been fighting the big C and I will take them back and get him out in his boat and throw some flies. He just got back into fly fishing. We did it as kids but that was almost 50 years ago!! I know he will appreciate the bugs. I will post the steps tomorrow. Frank aka Student4evr
  3. I can always use a little Stimulation!!! I'm IN. Frank aka Student4evr

  6. Jeff: The flies have left the building. :headbang: :headbang: Thank You for your patience. Frank Koterba aka Student4evr
  7. I spent an afternoon fishing an ant pattern on a tributary of the Methow River near Twisp, WA this summer. The fish weren't large, but they were numerous. It was a chance to work on my water reading skills. Y'a never can have enough ants. I'm In. Frank Koterba aka Student4evr
  8. Jeff: My Flies will be done today and will be in the mail on Monday. It has been pretty rocky, but this is the most satisfying swap I have done so far. My level of proficiency has been put to the test. This is also the first swap where I paid close attention to every detail. I went so far as to use calipers to map the photo in the Hatches article to get the proportions right and then I built a scale to lay out each fly! ( Those stir sticks from Starbucks really come in handy. They also make good bases for dubbing brushes when you add some Velcro.) Thanks to everyone for the slack to let me tie you a set as well as I am able. Frank Koterba aka Student4evr ps: I'm not sure what happened but this is my 2nd submission of this post.

  10. Dart: Just wanted to give you an update. I should be done in a day or so. I will have to figure out how to ship these without doing any damage. I just might use the mother of all Altoids boxes. As far as the bump in the start of the floss section, I used the article in Hatches premier issue on "Tie for show...". John McCoy doesn't clip anything he ties in until the front of the fly. And he is really stingy when it comes to adding any wraps and he uses precise thread control. I went so far as stripping the peacock from the tail wrap after I had secured it and carrying it forward with an extra length of floss to keep the base diameter consistent. I also learned that you only want to use one side of the below the peacock "eye" for any given fly. One other thing I want to warn everyone about is that I tied these for show. To keep everything clean, I did add any knot between the initial jam knot and the whip finish at the end. I found that I could go back and fix any problems as I tied the fly. (Does anyone need about a million broken peacock hurls??) If you fish this fly it will probably be a 1-shot deal. Dart I still need an addy Frank aka Student4evr
  11. Dart: I am making progress. I found a couple of packs of good hackle to mate the wing and I have solved the peacock issues and proportions on this pattern. I am not tying these for fishing. I have not reinforced the hurl and there are no knots securing the fly until the whip finish. This has been a challenge from getting the right hooks, to solving all the other issues in the process. I am also tying it in a size 8 so everything shows. It has aslo really raised my level of awareness and skill. Thanks for hosting this swap. Frank aka Student4evr Here is a sample of what is coming. I could also use your addy.
  12. Dart: I am going to require a few extra days. I have had a bit of a rough patch in the last several months. For this swap I have tried to tie flies that are for show. It has taken a bit of time since I got back from my Mom's services and I have gone through a lot of material until I am starting to produce some results. ( there are 5 packages of hackle that for which I don't have any use). The best hackle are the big ones. The tips are uniform and thin and they tie in without much offset on the matched set of wings. I hope to get tje bugs in the mail by Friday. Thanks for hosting this swap!! It has given me a chance to get riggorous about my tying. Frank Koterba aka Student4evr

  15. To all the participants in this swap: I want to thank you all for your patience and I appreciate your e-mails and thoughts. I was able to get back in time to spend several hours with my Mom and family before she passed on. It was a sad time but we were able to get all those things said that you wished you would have said before the end. We found a great assisted living facility and an outstanding Hospice group that helped us through the whole process. It allowed us to concentrate on Mom and each other. The service drew a very large crowd of her and our friends. So we spent the day celebrating her life. I received the last of the flies this week and they went out in the mail today. We had 9 tiers at the end, so I spread out the extras. Thank you all for participating and I look forward to seeing you in other swaps. Frank Koterba aka Student4evr
  16. Things have settled down a bit and the snow is almost done. The flies should be in the mail tomorrow. Frank aka Student4evr
  17. FC: It's snowing. Time to get back to the vice. I'm in. Frank aka Student4evr
  18. I have updated the arrival of the new flies. We have one week to go. I have to go back to Minnesota tomorrow to be with my family. We are about to loose our mother. I may be back after the deadline if mom passes in the next couple of days. I will get things sorted out when I get back. Frank aka Student4evr
  19. To every in the swap: I am sorry to say that I must withdraw from this swap. My mother has been battling cancer for about a year and she is now in her last days. My older brother's cancer has just returned and I will be leaving for an indefinite time to be with my family. I hope to return to return later to participate in other swaps. Once again I am sorry to not hold up my end of the commitment. Frank Koterba

  21. Dezod and all the other members of the swap: . I will be a bit late in getting the bugs in the mail. I will finish them tomorrow. I have been a bit distracted after a long battle my mom has 2-3 weeks left in her battle with cancer. Our family has been working to make this a celebration of her life; not a dwelling on her loss. I will be leaving to go back to Minnesota on Sunday, and I hope you all will have a great holiday season. We will be celebrating my Mom's job WELL DONE. Frank Koterba aka Student4e
