  1. These work good for bluegill and crappie. Never fished them through the ice, though.
  2. I've been doing pretty well on them here in Florida for the last month or so. Here's what I've been catching them on: Myakka Minnow: No. 12 bead-head nymph: Nice speckled perch (crappie)
  3. Your crawfish really looks good! Recipe?
  4. Great looking flies! Recipe? Wonder how they'd work here in Florida?
  5. The late George Rose, who resided in Rotonda, Fla., and was one of my early mentors once told me in his crisp New Hampshire accent, "Steve, there are no new flies. There all variations on the same theme." I believe him to this day.
  6. Two of my favorites that usually always produce: Myakka Minnow Bead head nymph on No. 12 hook: When the topwater bite is on, I'll use a No. 10 chartruese popper. I'll fish it until the bite ends. Then, I go subsurface.
  7. If your tying skills aren't up to where you think they should be, you'd better start designing flies and selling them when you think you're at that level! Recipe? :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
  8. Much appreciated, Bruce. Thank you!
  9. Thank you very much. You've helped me a lot!
  10. I've tied flies for a long time, but mostly saltwater stuff. So, I have little to no experience with many of the classic freshwater materials. I want to tie some flies, using goose biots as the wing. Is there a tutorial somewhere that I can read? Anyone here have any simple instruction?
  11. Sunny and warm Sarasota, Fla., home of giant tarpon, sneaky snook, spooky redfish and some of the best freshwater fishing going!
  12. Thank you, very much. Top shot is my favorite, too!
  13. A new addition to the fly pattern database has been submitted by SteveGibson: Gibby's D.T. Special (Variation)

  15. Thank you. I like your kayak. I fish out of a Native Watercraft Ultimate 14.5. I like it a lot. I also own two Heritage Redfish 12s (Angler package).
  16. I traveled to Helen, Ga. with a couple of friends to spend three days fishing for trout in Georgia rivers. We fished the Chattahoochee River, Noontootla Creek , Soque River and the Chestatee River. We fished with guide Rex Gudgel out of Unicoi Outfitters. We caught and released 90-100 rainbows to 27 1/2 inches on nymphs and streamers.
  17. Nuttin' better than seeing West Virginia lose. Think about it for a second. If the Mounties had won, there would have been all sorts of couches burned in Morgantown. Save the Naugahyde! Losing to USF and Pittsburgh shows that WVU isn't in the same league as the big boys. :yahoo:
  18. Here's one I took while fly fishing the Myakka River from my kayak:
  19. I launched my kayak just before daylight and was treated to this sunrise:
  20. Shot this snook by the piling near Boca Grande, Fla.
  21. A friend and I were out on Sarasota Bay when we encountered a school of bluefish. They were too far away for the fly rod, so he tied on a hookless topwater plug and made a long cast in an attempt to tease the school close enough to the boat for a cast. While he was doing this, I was snapping photos. Had no idea what I got until I got home.
  22. Tarpon are great fun on fly rod. I landed seven this year (six on fly), and all came "after" the season ended. Traiditionally, our season along the west coast of Florida is mid-May through mid-July. But there always are tarpon still around when the season "ends." The neat thing, though, is that there are no boats or other anglers out there. The photos I shot came after we staked out on a shoal and sight-casted to tarpon in 5 feet of water I had several shots that day and finally got this one. The battle lasted 90 minutes and the fish really wasn't that big -- about 85 pounds. My favorite tarpon are the babies in the Everglades. They range from 12 inches to 25 pounds. Now, they're a blast!
  23. We had a decent tarpon season along Florida's West Coast. Here are a few shots:
