Hey Pat, I have a bunch of old flies (and I mean OLD) that my grandfather gave me. I can't find a use for them, but I am sure Casting for Recovery could. Would you mind donating them for me? thanks, gage

How Did You Learn To Tie?
smalltownfisherman replied to Arkansas Mike's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
Self taught, No mentors, just a skykomish fly tying kit, the dinky pamphlet, and the crappy vise........ I had a BLAST!!! Never looked back. But also the library has made lots of money on from late-fee fly-tying books recently. :innocent: gage -
Thats an interesting one! Looks like a trout killer! Thanks for posting! gage

All of your work I've seen is absolutely great! Plus, they all look like fish getters. Keep posting the great flies! gage

Okay, I'll tie one up. :headbang: Anyways; not in Chapman, but there is a lake that is fifteen minutes away that has big pike and bass in it (Otter Lake). But sadly the tree line on that lake makes it impossible to fish with a fly-rod (unless you are an expert at roll-casting big flies). But I am planning on buying a john boat so I will be able to hit the big fish hard. :yahoo: . gage I'm thinking a float tube would be the ideal tool for such a place :dunno: Another sweet tie, Chris Jan Hey Jan, Yes, I also have been thinking of getting a float tube, but my little brother and my dad almost always come fishing with me. So it would be better to have a boat of some kind. p.s I got those leafhoppers tied for ya' Chris. (I got carried away and tied half a dozen) gage

Where I fish (Chapman Lake), the bluegills are quite small and go crazy over bright colors. I've never caught one from that lake bigger than 5-6 inches (give or take). But all the lakes that are an hour or less away are very weedy and hard to fish with a fly-rod. So I tie stuff small so I can fish it easier and pop it right in between weeds. I hope you catch lots of trout on that nice little fly. P.S I will send you my killer 'gill' fly in the mystery box if you want one. (it's a leafhopper pattern I cooked up) gage

Nice little fly. Looks like it might be good for bluegills if tied in a size 10 or 14. gage

WOW!! Great lookin' flies everyone! gage

Hi Loren, I had the same discussion about the danvise on one of my threads. And I came to the conclusion that it would be much better to buy a Griffin Spider Vise ($85) or an Anvil Vise ($100). Both of these vises have lifetime warranties; and from reviews and opinions I've read, look like high quality. BTW I'm hopin' to get one of these for my b-day (Sept 7). Hope this helps, Gage
