  1. Just curious, has anyone ever made a frame out of thickwall PVC for one of these rigs? I would think that with enough cross struts etc. it could be done pretty well and with all the fittings available all you would need is a saw and waterproof glue.

    Rod trouble

Could have something to do with the weather too. If it was cold and you were out there for a while there is a chance it got brittle and you hit it jist right to break it. Diamonds are the hardest thing out there but you can chip or break one if it gets hit just right (or wrong depending on your perspective)
  3. striblue - Nice job and presentation. Have you posted you recipe for these little beauties?
  4. CalebD. Well deserved, fantastic job putting that entire fly together, especially the wings.
  5. I doubt if you can dye them but there is a new spray paint on the market for refinishing plastic chairs etc. would probably work OK.
  6. Just wanted to thank everyone for the kind reception. Get in touch if you're headed this way and we'll try to set something up for you down this way. Mike
  7. Shep, nice tie. What size hook did you use and what is the wrap on the body?
  8. Don't do it, step away from the computer and go for a long walk to clear your mind. It becomes obsessive and will drive you crazy and ruin your life
  9. Keep your dirty hands off my dog and cat, they're mine I tell ya!
  10. I use liquid silicone same as clear shoe dressing/waterproofing, you've probably got a bottle of it around the house. Small glass dish with the silicone in it then dunk the fly and let it sit for a while.
  11. Outstanding job by all the tiers and a wonderful job presenting them all to us.
  12. You're good to go with all of the above. Good first effort, now go fish it and let them little fishys be the final judges.
  13. Johan, beautiful job and very funciontional. Nica and compact with a beautiful finish. Thanks for the post.
  14. Your dedication and patience are greatly appreciated. Can't wait to see them. Might take as long to vote as it did for you to produce the photos. Thanks.
  15. Nice tie. Easy and looks like it would do well for Redears, etc.
  16. All the chain drugstores CVS etc. carry Sally Hansen. I've been using the clear with nylon for years. also great to keep with you to repair flies. It is also available in many colors.
  17. Use a bodkin, it can be cleaned off and reused. I've never tried to brush epoxy, if I did I'd probably end up with the brush being part of the fly. A lot depends on the type of "epoxy" you are using, If you want to brush it try Softex and a throw away craft brush.
  18. Way to go. The first step is always the hardest, it can only get better from here on. Just take your time and think it all through. We all started the same way.
  19. I think the general rule is you can use cat and dog but only if you can't get the wife and kids to stand still while you take a little snip
  20. JB- the box with the ripple foam is only one option for the VHS boxes you could just cut down packing foam and wedge it in. All in what works for you not everyone else
  21. Wayne did you cement the bunny all the way or leave the back end loose? I bet in the right colors and sizes it would make a great saltwater fly.
  22. I had a similar experience, saw a truck suck in a red tailed hawk that was eating its prey on the side of the road, illegal as hell to have and use but just going to waste out there so into the gunny sack. What a magnificent source of varied feathers.
