  3. Nice Video. What are you using to hold the foam in place on the dremel? Looked to be a a nail but had a point on the end. My improvements would be a mount of some sort to make the dremel into a lathe and use popsicle sticks with sand paper attached or use an emery board. Here is the site I first learned of these. http://flyanglersonline.com/flytying/fotw2/010603fotw.php
  4. The drain could be a shop vac installed. I remember seeing another Nor-Vise system with a shop vac under it. Can make it like a central vac system. When you take the lid off the vac starts.
  5. One other key tip for you. When twisting the tinsel into a rope for a rib leave a long tag end in front of the eye and behind the hook bend. Tie in behind the eye and tie back to bend holding down the tinsel then back to eye. Take the tag in front of eye and wrap to bend then back to eye, tie off and trim. Take the tag end behind the bend twist into rope, then rib body, tie off and trim.
  6. TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, HE LIVED ALL ALONE, IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE. I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE, AND TO SEE JUST WHO IN THIS HOME DID LIVE. I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE, NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE. NO STOCKING BY MANTLE, JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND, ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES OF FAR DISTANT LANDS. WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS, A SOBER THOUGHT CAME THROUGH MY MIND. FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY, I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER, ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY. THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING, SILENT, ALONE, CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME. THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE, THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER, NOT HOW I PICTURED A UNITED STATES SOLDIER. WAS THIS THE HERO OF WHOM I'D JUST READ? CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FOR A BED? I REALIZED THE FAMILIES THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT, OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT. SOON ROUND THE WORLD, THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY, AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY. THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR, BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE. I COULDN'T HELP WONDER HOW MANY LAY ALONE, ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME. THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE, I DROPPED TO MY KNEES AND STARTED TO CRY. THE SOLDIER AWAKENED AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE, "SANTA DON'T CRY, THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE; I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, I DON'T ASK FOR MORE, MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS." THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP, I COULDN'T CONTROL IT, I CONTINUED TO WEEP. I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS, SO SILENT AND STILL AND WE BOTH SHIVERED FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL. I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT, THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR SO WILLING TO FIGHT. THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE, WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA, IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE." ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH, AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT. "MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT." This poem was written by a Marine stationed in Okinawa Japan. The following is his request. I think it is reasonable..... PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. Please, do your small part to plant this small seed.
  7. Yes great tie but do tell us how you achieved the final result.
  8. Very nice. Can not tell if you just tied in the uni stretch in the thorax only or wrapped over it to the hook bend. If the uni stretch is as translucent as flex floss it looks like you only tied in at thorax. That white uni stretch is better looking than white flex floss.
  9. Is it on your CPU or on the web? If on your CPU upload to Photobucket then add to your post.
  10. Lykos33 Thank You. Ninja115 At first I thought it was going to be a real pain but honestly its not. There is a hub you use with the nor-vise or a drill to wind the thread. It may take 3 mins to wind the thread once you change things out. I have spools with colors on them from when I first bought the bobbin kit that I do not use much. I made the mistake of loading hole spools at first. I only have 4 extra spools so I need to consider how much I will tying with the color at hand and how I am tying. If I am not tying rotary style I can use regular bobbin. If tying rotary style the nor-bobbin makes it much easier but is not required. His spools are relatively cheap at 3 for 10 or 10 for 25. If you buy the kit for 50 you get 4 spools and the spool arbor. Once you have an arbor you do not need another. His Bobbin with a spool is listed at 35. I have only had one problem with my bobbin not rewinding which was 2.5 years after purchasing. After talking with Norm he sent me a new one after I returned the old one. Only charge was the return postage of sending the old one back. There is of course the Ekich Bobbin you could buy for 100 which uses regular spools. I am not sure what this company will do if it fails to rewind since I have had no dealings with them. I can attest to the great customer service with dealing with Norm Norlander. His service has always been top notch which is hard to get elsewhere. Mike P.
  11. I am using the Nor-Vise automatic bobbin.
  12. Good Video. Really like the use of a cotter pin.
  13. I made my first Video of me tying a fly. I show how I tie with flex floss for the body. This is my very first video so you will have to bare with me. I do not like being on camera. Hope you enjoy.
  14. UNI-Flexx is a fine elastic strand and comes in fifteen colors: UNI-Stetch: Tired of having strands of floss separate and slide down the hook bend? An exclusive offering of UNI-Products, UNI-Stretch, will solve your problems. This stretch nylon material is easy to wrap, stays in place, and makes excellent underbodies as well. Spirit River’s Flex-Floss is an extremely versatile synthetic material that can easily replace floss in any recipe as well as create wiggly legs that shimmer and shine when wet. When Flex-Floss is stretched tightly about the hook shank, it can produce poppy segmented midge larvae and pupae. Spirit River Flex-Floss is packaged in convenient 6-inch long doubled hanks and is available in four punchy colors. Brace yourself because the bright luster of Spirit River’s Flex-Floss will make your artificial fly patterns take off! These are the descriptions from a couple web sites of the material in question. I was also mistaking the uni=stretch for uni-flexx. It appears you should be able to use one to replace the other. The Uni-flexx come on a spool where the flex floss comes in hanks or bundles. Here is a link to UNI page with a Nymph tied with there flexx. Click on the Nymph Chartreuse, Redbille in the nymph list. http://www.uniproducts.com/eng/mouches.asp
  15. Uni flex is not the same as flex floss. FrequentTyer is correct about spanflex being the closest match to flex floss. Flex floss is rubbery like silli legs but does not get as brittle over time.
  16. The Nylon Stretch and Uni Stretch are not the same as the flex floss. Spanflex would be the closest match. This is a rubber material like silli legs but not as brittle.
  17. Skip48, I am using the spirit river flex floss. I have a roll of similar material in a pink that I got from Jo-Annes which called stretch cord. I have seen it listed on ebay also. Here is a listing that has 25 different colors. http://www.ebay.com/itm/25-color-1-10-Roll-Elastic-Stretch-Thread-Cord-Bracelet-Jewelry-Making-0-5mm-/140651931085?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item66740fd24c#ht_18408wt_1139

Deeky is correct. The body is flex floss. I have been tying with it for close to 2 years now. I first started using it with a thread base and 3 layers or wraps. Now I am not using a thread base with 2 layers. The trick with tying flex floss is wrapping it under tension. I stretch it almost to the point it slips from finger and thumb hold. I did a step by step on a rojo midge that I posted which shows the process. Tie in at head, wrap to hook bend, then back to head. Flex floss also comes in about 13 colors from spirit river. A little goes a long way.
