  1. Smallies are tearing my eyes out. But that's a good thing in a way. Is Zap a Gap Ca a good choice? Thanks
  2. Lots of crawdads and minnows ditz2.
  3. Didn't know where to post this exactly. Caught this guy last year during July, under drought conditions. Very small creek. Deepest holes are only 4 feet. He must have lived his whole life in this little creek. Between 18" and 19" and fat. He must have been gorging himself on minnows.
  4. Man those are just plain nice smallies. Congrats and keeep em coming!
  5. A 26" Smallmouth! Man i wanna see that pic! That would be awesome!
  6. Utyer i am guilty. I was under the impression that once a year is good enough, but i guess thats not the case. Hairwing and Planettrout, i will def give those products a try and thanks for the heads up.
  7. Just cleaned my 6wt Cabelas brand line with Palmolive and warm water. Line is 5 years old and hurts like hell when I strip in a streamer. Like sandpaper almost. Gonna spray some silicone on it now, to slicken it up. It says its safe for plastic? Whats everybody think? Thanks
  8. Good idea Piker20. I will give that a try. Thanks!
  9. I have some sz 2/0 Mustad hooks i wanna tie some Murdich Minnows on. My question is if i add a 5-8 wraps of. 020 or. 030 lead will the fly still ride hook point down? ( Which is what i want) Thanks
  10. Thats cool! My buddy looks at me like im nuts when i use a 1/4 or bigger crankbait for smallies. Lol
  11. Tied up some foam flies for topwater Smallie action. The big one i call a Mormon Cricket, but not sure if its the same pattern? Also put a glass rattle in the big one and man it really has a loud clack. Hoping they attract a few smallies.
  12. Finished 2 more recently. Not the best work, but its all my pudgy little digits could muster up.
  13. That's why I love Smallies Tidewaterfly! You never know what there gonna hit! I think your right JSzymczyk, its hard to go to big with smallie flies. I remember wading about 3 years ago smallie fishing and was using a small fly and hooked a 6" inch River Shiner. I was stripping him in when a 15" Smallie came out of nowhere and slammed him. The shiner would get away and then get caught again. This lasted for about 2 minutes with the smallie actually running between my legs! Finally the smallie let go and I got the shiner in and he was a trashed dead mess. Wow, what a predator fish! Will tie some a little bigger and smaller, but from what you guys say I think im in the ballpark for smallies. Thanks!
  14. How big do you make Clousers for Smallies? These are in 3" range. Thanks
  15. Still waiting on the fly in the mail. Did you get my address right???
  16. Tidewaterfly, I couldn't agree more. simple is better for tying crayfish flies. Im good at hooking them on rocks and such, to be spending to much time on them.
  17. Liking the Clouser Minnow Crayfish color a lot. Gonna have to tie some for sure. I appreciate everybody`s replies. Riffleriversteelheadslayer gonna def tie up some rattling Murdich Minnows too. Got plenty of Clousers Mikechell just gotta have more confidence in them. Tight lines all!
  18. Hey Tidewater Creeks are in the 30 to 70 ft range in width. Not a ton of smallies in these creeks but that's all I have close to me. I have caught 3 smallies of 18" 181/2" and 19" in past but that's few and far between. 10" to 15" fish avg size. My Murdich minnows are tied in 3" to 5" range on sz 2- 2/0 hook sizes. Clousers are tad smaller on sz 6-8 hooks. Thanks everybody for input!
  19. Im not sure if the info you need is on the USGS website, but if so im talking low water conditions and the flow is between 50 and 125 on USGS website. Hope that helps. And I do carry both flies at all times. I tend to lean towards the Murdich but that's cause I tie them a little bigger than my Clousers and just feel they attract larger smallies? Thanks
  20. If you had to choose one to fish a nice smallie filled creek 1 to 4 feet deep, which one and why? Thanks!
  21. Great first attempt! Yep it will catch fish i think. As far as improvements, you will get better and better with each one you do. Packing hair tighter, adding eyes, trimming with scissors and razor blades will get easier for you. Ask a lot of questions on here, cause there are some very talented and helpful people on this site. Congrats and show us your first fish you catch on it!
  22. Man thats nice! Could u catch smallmouth on that? In Bob Clousers book i remember reading that his father use to use live mice to catch giant smallies when Bob was a young boy. That might be worth a try on my small creek/rivers for smallies.
  23. I had a guy give me a furled leader for my 6wt. I liked it for streamers and such, but when i would put a topwater bait on, the fly wouldnt act right? Is it just me or maybe u shouldnt use furled leaders for topwater flies?
