  1. Come on guys easy now. Sal posted his opinion of the materials. as requested and while he didn't pull any punches he did not say point say anything pointed and an individual. I don't see the need to attack Sals opinion. You could have said just as much by backing your decision on why these and other synthetics are worthwhile.
  2. Cool! I'll figure something out fairly soon.
  3. Is this one still open for another swapper/neophyte video attempt?
  4. Kind of a mixed bag for me, it depends on the swap. Some of them I do it just to look for new ideas on how to do something or use a material differently. Others its like everyone else said, it makes me a take the time to get a little better at something in particular. I hardly ever fish with any of the flies I get back. I keep them all in bins with their tags still attached. It's probably been close to a year or more since I did one last. I think I need to start watching for one here soon!
  5. LOL what a description George! I almost wonder if they had a bad batch of jaws that the temporing didn't work right somehow. I'm like Steve, had my Traveler for at least 15 yrs now and it's been just fine.
  6. Another good option is JoAnn Fabics and get one of the bags they sell for craftwork. THey do a lot of 40-50% off sales and you can get some nice totes for a reasonable price then.
  7. Here's one I like. http://www.flytyingforum.com/pattern357.html And another. http://www.flytyingforum.com/index.php?act...amp;showid=1803
  8. 99% of the time I tie on Daiichi. I like the durability and the micro-barbs. Much better than the big gnarly mustad barbs.
  9. Thanks for the suggestions! I had a GREAT time tying at the show and seemed to be pretty well received. Had a pretty good number of people asking questions. I'm all set to do it again! lol
  10. Hey for anyone who fly fishes or has considered it, The North Coast Fly show is coming up this Saturday January 5th. There will be lessons for beginning tiers as well as expereinced tyers there willing to share their skills with anyone wishing to add some additional patterns or techniques to their arsonal. There will also be a number of shops represented as well. I'll be there tying for the Western Reserve Fly Anglers Club, stop by and say hey if you make it up! Here are the details for the show. 6th Annual Northern Ohio Fly Tying Exposition™ Sponsored By: North Coast Fly Fishers, Inc. 11. Well I got my hands on my Christmas money and it's burning a hole in my pocket! I was going to buy the ott-lite travel light but then I ran across the Rechargeable battery one the offer that also runs with an A/C adapter! Has anyone here had experience with that one? I've already got the big desk lamp with magnifier and I'm looking for a supplement light for fishing trips and fly shows.
  12. Thanks for the feedback everyone, this is all VERY HELPFUL!!! I just found the article in my new FlyTyer as well. I just got it a week ago and hadn't had time to even read the cover yet, what timing!
  13. Thanks Mike! I was kind of thinking terms of something steel oriented but was a little unsure. I was a little worried about falling into the "been there done that" type patterns that the more experienced steelhead tyers venture into. My goal is that I want to make sure that I'm tying stuff that's interesting to somebody. Any other tips you can give would be greatly appreciated! I'm already planning on having one of those little boards where I can use the little clips to set up versions of the flies I'm tying.
  14. I'm looking for some advice. It looks like a I may be tying as a represtentative for our club the North Coast Fly Fishers show next month and I'm trying to figure out what I should tie. This will be the first time for me to do something like this so I was wondering for those of you that have done this before, how do you decide what to tie???
  15. Awesome job on the flies everyone, The voting was as difficult as always! Will, Your time and effort that you put into this is a GREAT thing! AND the photo's just keep getting better and better!
  16. I've also had some decent luck with a small black Montana Stone nymph in the NW part of PA. Good luck!

  20. Thanks guys!! I'm a whopping 44 this year but my wife still says I'm an 8 yr old, all is well!!! :yahoo:
  21. You should have them in your mailbox no later than Monday. Sorry about the delay.
  22. You can get away with just the fed id. but an LLC will protect your personal assets from any type of freaky lawsuit that someone may come up with. It's worth the $125 filing fee.
  23. Definitely a great read! It helped me with a little bit of a mistake I made. Ooops!
