  1. After doing a little research I want to try that RM power silk!!! looks awesome. :yahoo:
  2. isn't Pearsall's thread for rod wrapping not fly tying?
  3. The Bob Lawrence is a gorgeous fly. I wish there was video of some of these being tied. Thanks so much for putting up the pictures and all the work. It is an amazing job.
  4. I understand not having a vise. When I wanted to get started I had to wait for about 4 months till I had a little extra to get one. I have 6 kids so there isn't usually a lot of extra. I try to work deals to get matarial such as I just contacted a local taxedermist and agreed to tie him some fly's for some of his scraps. Were going to get together late this week for me to pick out what "scraps" I want. This hobby is an addiction and once you get a vise I think you will enjoy it even more. Good luck to you and I hope to see you on the forums a lot.
  5. Thanks I will take a look from home tonight. My office blocks you tube so no luck while at work.
  6. Welcome to the forumn. I am sorry no one has responded I think everyone is out getting in there last bit of good weather fishing. Your flies are very blurry try to hold the camera a little further back don't worry so much about size we can blow it up bigger if need be. But, blurry is hard to tell what you have done their. From what I can see they look like a good start. Did you just start tying? If so you at least have some good begining talent and you will do well.
  7. A day wow thtat much tying would give me carpal tunnel LOL.
  8. I would also be willing to do some trades. Whatever you got I am sure I can use cause I don't have a lot of supplies.
  9. The coolest thing about this find was that the garage sale had no fishing gear out. I asked the gal running the garage sale if she had any fishing stuff. She told me to hang on ran inside and brought that out. She said it was her grandfathers and she wasn't sure if she wanted to sale it. She saw how I lighted up and decided to sale it to me. She asked me for a price I said 5 bucks she said how about 10 I said sold.
  10. I was wondering if you guys could name about 5 - 10 good flies for fishing in UT. My dad fishes for trout, rainbow and brown, Walleye, etc. He fishes in lakes, reseviours and any river he can get to with his waders. He goes fishing all the time. He even goes ice fishing (something I just can't do, way too cold.) So help me out I have no idea what to tie for him. I want stuff that he can't really buy or would be expensive to buy so what patterns would you fish in UT? Thansk in advance!
  11. My flies were put in the mail yesterday you will have before the weekend, I would imagine. Thanks for hosting I hope my "newbie" flies catch fish. I know some of them should since I have caught fish on my own flies allready. Thanks again, Bryan
  12. I don't know if you want to vote I gues you have to donate to preserve streams and rivers in order to vote but you can take a look for free. http://fishphoto.orviscontests.com/ then click on search for photo and type in “Fishing with Grand Pa” I love this picture of my youngest son and my dad fly fishing on a lake in UT.
  13. pure, distilled water has a specific gravity of 1.0 so just ASSume creek, pond, and river water does too. Anything with a specific gravity of less than 1.0 is less dense therefore it does not get pulled down through the water by gravity. Again, ASSume this has nothing to do with shape, support, displacement, or a billion other factors. Things with a specific gravity of more than 1.0 "sink" in water. Again, another billion variables because ships made of steel float. so if you had a solid sphere of DHC's THIN WALL CROSS-LINKED POLYOLEFIN !!!! it should (barely) float in calm pure water. A solid sphere of lead won't. Put a big bubble of air in either one, and the lead one could be made to float while the other will float a lot better. Thanks for the explination!! Gotta love physics :yahoo:
  14. Join the club. I think I'm the president of it. When that sh*t happens, I try to remember, be thankful that I HAVE a driveway, and a wife. Sometimes I'm more thankful for the driveway than the wife, but that's another topic entirely... :hyst: I don't think your the president. I have to get a ride to work every day because right after I moved from california to Nebraska both my family van and my comute car broke down. Had to fix the van so I can get kids to school everyday (I have 6 kids) but my car has been sitting in the garage since the begining of June. But I agree I at least own a home here in NE I never could have done that in CA now I just need to get over this hump and get my comute care fixed but it is going to be a small christmas for the kids because the car has to come first. Ah the joys of life. At least I can still tye some flies and go fishing
  15. Human hair who would have thought.
  16. I am wondering if I should use the materials in the kit or leave it as is? I think I am leaning towards leaving it as intact as I can and not use any material from it and have it set up as a display eventually.
  17. I am tempted to at least try to tye a fly with it and with only what is in the box however I have no idea how to use the thread with that thing on it.
  18. Found this at a garage sale. I thought it was pretty cool. Paid 20 bucks for it. top of box Price tag Vice Spool and Bobbin (I think) Contents
  19. Specific Gravity of THIN WALL CROSS-LINKED POLYOLEFIN in clear is .95 which means it floats without any air bubble. Colored thin wall products weigh more up to a specific gravity of 1.4 Okay you lost me with that one.
  20. Oh and if there is a better place to post this please let me know that as well.
  21. Ok so here is the question. My sone bought a David Wand rod witha martin reel attached. I don't know anything about this rod. I can't find anything on it to tell me what the weight is. How do I tell? This rod is real pretty it has hackle embeded in the laquer the raps look very nice. I don't know if it is a production rod or not. I did a search for David Wand Fly Rods and can't find anything. Maybe someone here knows something or somehwere else I can look. Thanks in advance.
  22. I tye way more than I get to fish. If I could fish 5-8 hours every week I would probably tye a lot more and still end up tying more than I fish. Plus I just love tying it is its own hobby in my book.
  23. I don't see a price. How much is the fly tying bag? Do you know?
  24. Well I got the heat shrink the other day and put in on and all I can say is holy cow what a great tip. My euoropean hackle pliers sure hold now. They have so much more grip. Thanks for the great tips guys!!!! :yahoo:
