  1. God bless you! I hope everyone, at least here in America, will join us in giving thanks for all of the men and women, present company included, who have served and are serving to keep the Land of the Free free. Take care, TL
  2. This was my first attempt at spinning/flaring whatever it is you do to deer hair to make a bass bug with it. Aside from not being a good barber, what do you think? Can you even form an opinion from my bad pictures? A friend told me not to even try because I haven't been tying very long, but I did anyway. He also said I wouldn't be able to do it without Kevlar thread, but I used 6/0 flat waxed nylon. Thanks in advance, TL

    waders

I have always thought this whole idea of your waders filling while fishing being sure death was silly. I found this article the other day here http://www.sexyloops.com/articles/killerwader.shtml . Enjoy! TL
  4. Went from highs in the mid to high 70's Monday and Tuesday here to a high of 40 today. Ouch!!
  5. My wife sent mine today. You should get it soon. :headbang: TL
  6. Hard to beat a foam spider in my book. I haven't found anything better. I always seem to catch some bigger ones on a #6 clouser minnow as long as there is chartreuse in it. The spider is still better, though.
  7. Thank you Taxon. You were correct in assuming I was looking for a more technical answer, although all of the answers were much appreciated. I'll check your website out, and post any questions I come up with here for the benefit of others, and/or contact you through there as well. Thanks again, Terry
  8. Thanks Fusion! Cool links! I'll have to check out that www.warmwaterflytyer.com site. Looks cool. Terry
  9. Ok, I see what to do. Will you send me your mailing address via PM so I know where to send my fly to? Thanks and anchors aweigh, T.L. P.S. Go Navy, beat Army!!!
  10. Thank you for all of your responses. I read somewhere that you can catch a bunch of smallmouths after a hatch of mayflies or stoneflies. How can I find out when these hatches will occur in my area, or is that even possible? Thanks, Terry
  11. Ok, I'm in. I just hope you will appreciate my rookie tying skills. Please PM me with the address I need to send it to. Also, what is the best way to package the fly for shipping? Thanks, Terry
  12. Just what it says on the sign out front, what's a hatch and how can it help me catch more bass? I have heard all this stuff about hatches and matching the hatch, but I really don't think I get it. I am guessing it has to do with when certain types of insects are "born", but aside from that I am lost. Will someone please point me in the right direction? :help: Thanks, T.L.
  13. I suppose it's too late to get in now, huh? I'll get in on the next one if so. Terry
  14. Thanks for your kind words. I appreciate them, as they are a boost for my confidence. So far, I've been trying to learn a pattern at a time. Can any of you recommend a pattern for me to try next, keeping in mind that I prefer to fish for bass and panfish? Thanks in advance, T.L.
  15. No, I think they are afraid of either a. getting whipped by someone with a superior technique, or most likely, b. getting hooked by a wayward backcast. Either way, it feels like home now. Thank you. T.L.
  16. Here are three examples of what I am capable of producing consistently so far. Please tell me what you think. Sorry for the bad pictures, all I have is my camera phone right now.
  17. Hello everyone. My name is Terry, I live just outside of Memphis, TN. I have been to this site a lot of times and have tried some of the patterns, but I only recently joined. I haven't been tying very long, but I am really enjoying it. Like some of the other introduction posts I have read, I don't have anyone that I know to show me what's what, so I rely heavily on what I can find on-line. I fish for bass and panfish almost exclusively, but I am considering broadening my horizons to trout as there are some pretty good trout waters not too far from here from what I understand. I haven't been serious about fly fishing very long, but I have owned my one and only fly rod for almost 10 years now. I was involved in some small, local, bass tournament fishing, both here and where I lived before in south GA, and fly tackle was not allowed, so I didn't use it a lot. I have rediscovered the spark that drove me to fly fishing in the first place, and I am back where I think I belong now. There's a steep learning curve ahead, so please don't laugh too much, or at least not too loud, at my questions. I'll try to post some of my latest ties soon. Take Care, Terry
