  1. I'm in northern California just above Sacramento. Is there anyone close to here. I see there are some in Southern CA. Just wondering. I've been here for a long time and a lot of my fly fishing buddies have gone on. Ashby
  2. Yeah Gregg, Rit, heck you can use both and get rid of bugs while you die you fir :hyst: :j_k: Ashby
  3. Brent this is a good looking little fly. I love the body on it. The upper view you put with it is awesome. I agree with Graham, "Master Weaver" man I could take some lessons from you on this. Ashby
  4. Hey Dave, yes No See-ums are midges and pains in the :butt: Ashby
  5. :hyst: :hyst: Boy did I read that question wrong. I thought you said streams not streamers. Well they are great streams :hyst: Ashby
  6. I just read all of your posts to my daughter and she got all bashfull and giddy. She thinks it's a good idea to put this one in a frame to keep. Thanks for all the kinds words guys, you all made my daughters and my day. Ashby
  7. I have one here in CA called the North Fork of the Yuba river located in Downyville CA. It's just a beautiful stream as well as the Middle fork of the same river. Back home in VA it would be Mossy Creek. The hardest stream I have ever tried to fish. The fish are way too smart, and you do a lot of crawling. Buffalo Creek is another great one for Natives, god they are some beauties there. Like the Mossy you do a lot of low fishing as well and a lot of plunge pool fishing. Ashby
  8. Welcome to the forums Crekachee, trust me you can (like me) learn a lot from these guys here. They are full of ideas, tips, opinions and not afraid to put it out there to you if you ask. You love it here, I know I do. Ashby
  9. WOW Graham  that is the most awesome display I have seen. My wife and I just sat here (her puter is right beside mine) just going over the two pictures. The top on is good, but the bottom on shows all the detail. Very, very nice work. :headbang: :headbang: I can't wait to see the finish product. Ashby
  10. the cloth die that Sam is talking about I believe is RID. I've used it before on deer and it works great, just make sure you wash the hide when it's done lol or your fingers will end up the same color. Ashby
  11. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: Heck yeah, thanks a lot guys. She is gone this morning to a game but as soon as she gets home I can't wait to let her read your replies. That will send her through the roof. Ashby
  12. Well she did it. I should have picked something a lot easier but she wanted to start off with a Zonker  So she picked out a light one for her and a dark one for me. It took us about an hour or so to do the flies but it was an awesome hour. Believe it or not the only thing I had to do with her on this was maybe guide her a little when she would start her wraps, and then she would be on her own. I also would hold some of the material in place for her while she "flipped the bobbin" over the fly to secure the item. Other than that, prior to her doing a step, I would do it on mine and she would watch me very closely and then try to do the same thing. Crap you should have seen her on the dubbing :headbang: yeah, that's right, she did that. I showed her how to wet her finger, and spin the material on the thread and she wound it up like a little pro, good stuff I tell ya!!! She (we both) was so proud of her fly, she now has it stuck to a picture frame above her head in her room. She now wants to tie more tomorrow night with me. I think one fly and this little girl is now hooked. She started talking about how now that she can tie we need to go to the river and catch some big fish, catch a boat and get some bigger fish lmao. She came up with 40 different ways we could go fishing with all the flies we are going to tie :hyst: :headbang: Lance if you see this, I'll have to agree with you, this is one of the best times I've had at the vice. Oh yeah, I did tie it off for her. I'll teach her that in time, as for now I don't want to frustrate her too much. Well here is her fly, not too bad for a first time at 6 years old. Ashby
  13. 1st off...good luck with the twins :baby: Kids are a lot of fun and a pain in the neck  I have four and so far the 6 year old is the only one with the nitch to tie. We are going to do a fly tonight later on. So she is pretty stoked about it. When we get done with the fly I'll post it. No matter what it looks like I'll be pretty proud of it. Ashby
  14. Welcome to the site Ross. This is the only one on the net...well the only one I can think of spending my time on. Anyway chair back a stay a while and enjoy the company. Ashby
  15. ok I made it and picked my team. Heck I was in the right place the first time I looked. I didn't know I had to make a team and then join the group. It was a true brain fart :dunno: Thanks for the help. Ashby
  16. I have one and I'm signed in, it keeps wanting me to creat a new team, that is the only option that is there. Ashby
  17. :help: :help: :help: :dunno: I tried to go to the link, when there I can not find anywhere to enter any info to join the group. Since thowing my puter in the floor will do nothing but omit me from any competition I figured I would give you a shout for help. Ashby

    Nascar

I would would root for C Edwards, T Stewart, K Kahne, E Sadler, E JR, M Martin, M Truex...I think that will cover it :headbang: How does this work if it gets going? Ashby
  19. Now you guys are getting me all excited :headbang: Now I can't wait to get home to start with her. I'll have to help her with the bugger first and just go from there. Seems like an easy one to learn on. My first was a parachute blue dun, and is still one of my favorites. Ashby
  20. Welcome to the site Milo, as you will find out we have some awesome people here, and a lot of help and advice from them as well. See you around. Ashby
  21. I never was a cat man either, but my wife likes dogs in the house about as much as I like swimming in the toilet. So I mentioned getting a cat but I wanted to biggest I could find, and I did. He started out as a fingerling, and now is a 24 pound black and white Main Coon with a lot of attitude. So he is about as close to a dog as I can get right now lol. Ashby
  22. So there I was Monday night, in my bedroom, tying flies. My 6 year old daughter comes up to me and asks what am I doing. So I explained to her and asked if she wanted to watch me, of course she said yes. So this goes on Tue night as well. She would walk around me; check out all points of view that she could to see how this was happening. She then asked, "daddy...for Christmas next year can you get me one of those clamps so I can tie with you. Of course my heart melted (she is a doll anyway) and so we talked about it for a bit. I told her that I have another vice in the closet so if she wanted she would not have to wait. Yesterday I pick her and her sister up from school. Again the question came. "Daddy you said you have another clamp that you don't use that much" I said yes. Then she looks up at me, grabs my hand and says "daddy I really want to learn how to tie your flies, could you please teach me how so that I can do them with you." Wow!!! How do you or would you even think of saying no to that. I guess my question is...is 6 too young to learn, and has anyone taught anyone this young. She is already an artist, I mean a good one, not because she is mine, but she is very good, very very meticulous and detailed with her own work. I think letting her watch, explaining every step to her and the reason for that step and doing this for a while and then putting her on the vice beside me having her mimic my moves on the other vice to make very simple flies. If anyone has any advice in this please share it with me. I'm very excited about this and I don't want to take the chance in doing something wrong and discouraging her from perusing this. Thanks in advance. Ashby
  23. :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: That mouse was awesome. He got his revenge :headbang: Thanks for the words guys. luvinbluegills night time is the best time I have fished with this guy. Down at Kings Canyon CA, while a full moon was out, oh yeah :headbang: big Brown Trout. Redwings1 thanks for the respect :headbang: Ashby
  24. The guys and I have watched this video over and over and we can only assume the fish are in the Shad family but not sure. I have a neighbor that speaks Spanish and Portuguese fluently so I'm going to have him look at it and tell me what the guy is saying and maybe find out where they are and what kind of fish it is. In any case I would love to go just one time. I mean when you have to pull fish out of your hat :hyst: :headbang: that is the stuff dreams are made of lol. Glad you guys like it. Ashby
  25. Hey Crotalus, The body is Speckled Chenille, lime/olive and the eyes are barbells. This thing weighs a ton. It has lead wrapped from head to tail and it will get down in some deep water, but it's very effective. The tail and hackle are partridge in case you are wondering as well. Happy tying. Ashby
